elcome to Thomas Thurman's page
Welcome to my home page on Angelfire,
which they very kindly gave me for free-- as they will for you, if you ask.
This is to replace my home page
at Sidney, which will probably be
disappearing in a few months. Till then I'll try and keep them both
fairly tidy...
What do you want to know?
About me
- I'm currently a graduate student on the
MPhil
Computer Speech and Language Processing
course. One day I want to do a PhD, but I'm probably going to be
working next year.
- I'm a Christian. More about what that means is here.
- I'm a member of:
CICCU,
Sidney CU,
the Evangelical Alliance,
Reform,
the G&S Soc,
CUHAGS,
Mensa,
the BCS (Student grade),
and an Associate Subscriber of the Royal Institution;
and I'm also doing some stuff with CSIS.
- As you've probably guessed by now, I'm
a Sidneyite; take a look around the web pages
of what's reputed to be the friendliest college in Cambridge.
- I was co-author on the Avvy Project. Do you
remember
Denarius Avaricius Sextus,
Lord Avalot d'Argent and
Spellchick?
Refresh those memories here!
- I'm quite a fan of Java (the
language, not the coffee); it's
friendly and portable; none too fast as yet, but there we go. I'm
collecting together a few of my utility classes online
(they live in the package
ucam.org.tjat2.util
).
- I was born in the small and beautiful town of
Hitchin in
Hertfordshire,
but I grew up in
Letchworth Garden City
(bizarre place).
- I write the occasional sonnet.
- I do have an online CV now!
- You might meet me on
Surfers
(login)
or Mars
(login)
; my spod name is Marnanel.
- Before coming here, I was busy reading for the
BSc Computer Science
at the University of Hertfordshire
in Hatfield.
- Yes, I was there!.
- I suppose you might want to know what Ratatosk the squirrel
is sitting on this page for...
- I like to read (in alphabetical order):
Diana Wynne Jones,
C.S. Lewis,
George MacDonald,
J.I. Packer,
Adrian Plass,
J.C. Ryle,
J.R.R. Tolkien (when I have the time <g>)
and others, who will be added onto this page asap; hyperlinks soon.
Links
Usually, links are a waste of space, since I'm sure you know how to use
Alta Vista; these are the pages I've found
which really deserve a special mention.
- The Christian Think Tank
(aka Wittgenstein's Net), for anyone
who doesn't leave their brains in the church porch. :)
- Some good Bible overviews:

And you get a counter, too...
Can you imagine doing something which people
