  • Syafrinal Syarien has more than 10 years consulting experiences related to ERP Implementation and business process enhancement projects. He has been involved in many ERP projects in Indonesia, Australia, USA, and other ASEAN countries. With solid background and experiences, he gains a lot of competencies in various industry sectors, i.e. Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), retail industry, automotive, logistics, steel mills, petrochemicals, oil and gas, constructions, and government sectors

 

  • Syafrinal Syarien is one of first generation of SAP R/3 consultants in Indonesia. His knowledge and experiences in ERP sectors have been recognized by SAP. Currently, he holds three professional certificates awarded by SAP Asia and SAP America. In certain events, SAP Asia asked him to be an instructor on SAP Partner Academy and other official training events. He is also an active member of American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS)

 

  • During ERP implementation, he actively introduces and persuades the clients to adopt proven new concepts in logistics and supply chain, i.e. Kanban, JIT, LEAN, TQM, and Theory of Constraints. He believes that ERP implementation will be highly successful and brings huge benefits for the company if the company also implements the proven concept based on best-practice in their respective industry sectors.

 

  • In Retail Industry, Syafrinal has successfully led two implementations of SAP IS-Retail: one for the biggest supermaket chain in Indonesia (Matahari) and the other for the leading fashion retailer (Tigaraksa), with the following achievements:
    • Matahari

-          Managed transportation planning at a Distribution Center (DC) with 60 loading doors and more than 200 own-fleet. Including a complex shipment costs calculation.

-          Managed more than 40,000 merchandise items from hard goods to perishable items

-          Applied rapid automatic replenishment process from DC to stores.

    • Tigaraksa

-          Managed variative items in fashion industry including clothes and accessories.

-          Implemented a complex pricing structure based on seasonal, promotional and mark-down planning.

-          Applied allocation rule based on assortment module and rapid distribution process from Vendor to DC to stores with cross-docking function.

PT. Wings Surya (WS) is a sister company of Sayap Mas Utama (SMU) in Wings Group of companies, with annual revenue more than USD 0.6 billion. In addition to SMU, Wings Surya manufactures and distributes the product to eastern region of Indonesia as well as export to abroad.

Wings Surya has main business in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) divided into the following divisions:

Wings Surya distributes the product through modern distribution channel (hypermarket, supermarket, etc.) as well as traditional shops.

 

From geographical point of view, eastern region of Indonesia has very complex route for transportation process. So the main challenge for this project is how to maximize SAP Logistics Execution (LE) functions especially in Transportation planning & execution and shipment cost calculation.

 

Since the company also distributes the product directly to traditional market with complex pricing and discount structure, Syafrinal has successfully configured the standard SAP system to be satified the following requirements:

-          Cross-selling discount: buy one fast moving product and get a certain discount if the customer buys another slow moving product.

-          Variation Items Discount: the customer will get discount if they buy a number of certain items altogether in one order.

-          Product Launching Discount: for a brand new product, the customer will get progressive discount based on repeat order.

-          Voucher Redemption: for certain period, if the customer achieved sales target, they will be eligible to receive voucher with certain nominal value. The customer may redeem this voucher for invoice payment.

This project is a roll-out project from Heineken, Holland.

 

In conjunction with SAP implementation, Syafrinal were responsible to handle specific country requirements regarding logistics (returnable packaging and empties handling) and taxation process (VAT, LST, and Excise Duty) in Indonesia, so that the SAP system is compliance with local regulations.

PT. Sayap Mas Utama (SMU) is a leading Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company in Indonesia with more than USD 0.5 billion annual revenue. Their products are divided into three division:

-          Fabric Care (detergent, softener, bleach, etc.)

-          Personal Care (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)

-          Food and Beverage (instant noodle, juices, energy drinks, etc.)

-          Building Materials (tiles, fibercement, roof, and gypsum)

 

This mySAP ERP project is very challenging since a lot of organizational entities are in project scope. Including the interface of mySAP ERP with Manugistics, Workflows, and complex enhancements for Free Goods activities.

 

Meanwhile, in Logistics Execution process, there are 12 Warehouses included, and more than 500 transportation fleet with complex route scheduling and shipment costs calculation.

 

Syafrinal was responsible to configure and enhance SAP standard functions in Sales and Distribution module especially in pricing and logistics execution so that it satisfied client’s requirements. He also led all logitics team (MM, PP, WM, SD) as a system integrator.

 

Finally, this project has been awarded by SAP Indonesia as “The Best ERP implementation of the year 2005”.

In conjunction with SAP implementation project, Syafrinal Syarien is responsible to manage inventory supply chain process across distribution networks using SAP IS-Retail functions. His main role is to synchronize all processes from inbound, internal warehouse, and outbound processes. In order to increase service level to the customers and at the same time reduce inventory level, he also introduced new concept in replenishment based on Just in Time (JIT) methodology as provided by SAP IS-Retail functions.

 

SAP IS-Retail functions are used intensively in Fashion Retailing considering the company has only one Distribution Center (DC) with more than 400 outlets/stores to be supplied by DC. Some SAP IS-Retail functions including:

This project is the first SAP implementation in Indonesia for Small and Mid Size Business (SMB) based on SAP All-in-One concept. This project was effectively completed within 4 months.

 

In addition to ERP implementation, Syafrinal Syarien has successfully managed to enhance Belfoods’ business process based on Pack-to-Order. This method eventually reduces finished goods stocks and eliminates forecast inaccuracy at SKU level.

Matahari is the largest retail player with more than 200 stores in Indonesia. Their retail outlets can be divided into the following group:

Syafrinal involved in a full-cycle SAP logistics implementation at Distribution Center of the leading retailer in Indonesia. This implementation uses SAP IS-Retail functionalities and RF devices for mobile data entry.

 

SAP IS-Retail specific functions used at the DC include:

o        Push method (allocation and replenishment)

As a team leader for outbound logistics process, Syafrinal managed all team members in logistics to work together in order to increase efficiency in picking strategy and transportation processes.

 

This project was very challenging since it has to manage huge SKUs and variety of products including fashion, FMCG, basic home appliances, and perishable items in a very large warehouse facility.

Thai Oil has planned to implement SAP Project System (PS) module for their engineering and maintenance process. Prior to implementation, Syafrinal Syarien was invited to conduct a two weeks SAP intensive workshop for Project System (PS) module to maintain all activities in crude oil transportation, including building pipeline facilities, maintenance projects, civil works in refinery facilities, etc.

 

In the workshop, Syafrinal Syarien also worked together with other consultants to adjust existing modules, which are Material Management, Asset Management, Plant Maintenance, Controlling, Finance, and Asset Management, so that they will be working and integrated properly with PS module.
