South Asians( Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, & Sri Lankans) have the highest incidence of Coronary Artery Disease(CAD) among all the ethnic groups of the world such as Caucacians, African Blacks, Israeli Jews, Malays, Chinese and Japanese, irrespective of their religious affiliations, life style, diet or the country of residence.
Based on the available scientific information, it is reasonable to suggest that reliable methods and ways exist to prevent most cardiovascular diseases (CVD), as well as major risk factors associated with these diseases.
Therefore, the advisory board of the SASAT request that the health, media, social service professionals, scientific researchers and various other agencies join forces in eliminating this chronic complex disease by adopting appropriate policies and regulatory changes. Furhtermore, we suggest that concerted effort should be made for facilitating greater awareness of risk factors for CVD, and for encouraging the development of educational, diagnosstic, preventive and therapeutic guidelines and implementing needed prevention programs.
SASAT International, with its affiliated chapters in the UK and India will work towards the promotion of better heart health for South Asians.
