My Home Theater (so far)

My system is based on front projection to a 110" 16:9 Vutek screen. The projector is a Sharp XV-S55U LCD (Line doubled internally) w/a Cygnus pixel quadrupler lens. I extended the sharp ceiling mount to minimize keystoning.

The speakers up front are Mirage OM-12(LR), MC-3(C), MBS(Front Surrounds). I put a single speaker stand under the center speaker. The rear surrounds are ceiling hung MBS-2's. Total footprint is 12" out from the front wall. I really love these speakers. They look good, and provide possibly the biggest bang/buck for modest home theaters. There is also a Mirage PS-10 sub up front to the left. Although the cabinet/amp are Mirage, I replaced it's OEM woofer with a much higher quality woofer offered by Polk Automotive(DB10-4). This was a dramatic improvement.

My sources are 2 Sony A2 IF/RF satellite receivers, a Pioneer D-606D DVD player, and a panasonic S4670 S-VHS tape deck. I use a 27" Sony tv for "normal" viewing. DPL/DD and DTS decoding is done with a modified Yamaha DSP-A1 integrated amp combined with a 7-channel Audiocontrol Bijou EQ. For added realism, I've built and installed tactile tranducers into the couch. I feed them subwoofer signals which are crossed over @80hz delayed 8msec, and amplified via a Crate amp and DOD effects processor.

All speakers are "Omnipolar", emitting same phase sound from the front and rear. The rear surround's indirect sound comes from the center/back of the room. This is an incredibly accurate, wrap-around soundfield which perfectly joins the front surrounds indirect sounfield. The front surrounds also offer a deeper soundstage as well as pull up the center sound onto the screen. My cabinet is thick, aged pine. I've installed wheels on the bottom and 4 tiny radioshack DC squirrel cage blowers running at a reduced voltage. They are almost silent and keep the cabinet internals cold. Future upgrades include: Mods to the DSP-A1, addition of TDS harmonic enhancement(7chans), tactile and front effects equalizers, and a serious universal IF/RF remote.
