Theory Two

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hat reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgement of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

Jude 6,7.

This quote gives the over-all impression that the 'angels' descended to earth to obtain a kingdom on this world and to breed with mortal women. This breeding resulted in the birth of a breed of giants called the Nephilim, the fallen ones. The Nephilim took after their celestial fathers and formed a pact with Humanity to attack and subdue the Host of Heaven. There then appears to be a war where the three main forces of Heaven, the loyal archangels, Uriel, Gabriel and Michael, defeat and incarcerate these fallen forces of Chaos. This story is once again very similar to the Hellenic myth where the first borne beings of Uranus ( Heaven - spirit ) and Gae ( Earth -matter ), the Titans, were so vulgar and destructive that they were thrown into a 'dark place' by their father. Gae, outraged, persuaded the youngest of the Titans, Kronos ( El again? ) to rebel against his father. He castrated his father and thus ended his role as sovereign of the Cosmos.

Zeus slaying a Giant, counterpart to the Nephilim? The blood that 'fell' from this wound touched the Earth and caused the birth of the Giants, great monsters of enormous size and strength with lower parts of snakes as legs. Here ( left ) Zeus is killing a Snake legged Giant.

In turn, Kronos had children, yet fearful that they too would overthrow his rule, Kronus swallowed his children all except Zeus, again the youngest god. He tricked Kronus into drinking a potion which caused him to vomit up the young gods. When the young gods, the Olympians took hold of the cosmos, they too in turn threw the wicked Titans into the pit, far below even the shades of Hades, that place known as Tartarus, the specific part of the underworld set aside for only the gods themselves. Earth, in anger at having her first born again imprisoned roused the Giants to rebel against the Olympians thus causing another war in the quest for power. The three main Olympian powers appear to be Zeus, Hades and Poseidon, Heaven, Earth ( underworld ) and the Sea respectively, these gods were each given specific armaments to aid them in their crusade. The three also correspond to the Hebrew archangels Michael, Uriel and Gabriel each one representing the comparative realm, as discussed previously, the archangels subdued the rebellious fallen angels.

There does appear to be a similarity with this idea and the notes in the Necronomicon of an ancient, near forgotten race of beings that came or 'fell' to earth many aeons ago. It could be said that this book was based upon the ideas of Enoch, seventh master of the world after Adam, and author of the Kabala and Book of the Tarot. He is identical with the Thoth ( an avatar of Nyarlathotep? ) of the Egyptians, the Cadmus of the Phoenicians, and the Palamedes of the Greeks. According to tradition he did not die, but was carried up to heaven, whence he will return at the end of time. The Call of Cthulhu
The Necronomicon The book of Enoch was allegedly collated a century before the birth of Christ and deals with the fallen angels, their incarceration in Sheol, ( the Hebrew name for Shades, the realm of the dead, Tartarus ) and their traffic with humans.
These 'fallen angels' could apparently be contacted by seers, shamans and witches as in the story of Saul seeking wisdom from the witch at Endor. The Necronomicon deals extensively with the 'ever-living ones' that lie 'Dead yet dreaming' as the following quote indicates:-

Let all who read this book be warned thereby that the habitation of men are seen and surveyed by that Ancient Race of gods and demons from a time before time, and that they seek revenge for that forgotten battle that took place somewhere in the Cosmos and rent the Worlds in the days before the creation of Man, when the Elder Gods walked the Spaces, the race of MARDUK, as he is known to the Chaldeans, and of ENKI our master, the Lord of Magicians.

The Necronomicon was allegedly in the possession of the Elizabethan magician, John Dee, who is also said to have found the Enochian Keys, a secret language used to contact the fallen ones. The fallen ones also appear in Arabic folklore as the Djinn, Islamic counterpart to the more familiar Genie of popular mythology, beings that haunt the desolate places rarely frequented by Man, deserts, mountaintops, graveyards etc., the beings were condemned by Mohammed in the Q'ran as blasphemies against Allah, ( El ). Over the last few decades, with the emergence of the so-called 'new age' movement, the concept of communion with 'angels' through crystals, trances etc. has become increasingly popular. The Trapezoid mentioned in the Shadow from the Steeple is a prime example of this and also of fallen creatures locked in other dimensions.

More information is discussed in the Necronomicon page in this web site.
