The Calabrians Multicultural World Society Inc. was founded in 1985 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario as a non-profit organization. Its original founders were of Calabrian descent but its premise was based upon inclusion as it sought to form an organization that would welcome persons of all backgrounds.
The organization acknowledges the multicultural heritage of our society and through the respect and appreciation of the culture, history and contributions of all ethnic and racial groups and ancestries, egalitarianism is fostered in our society.
The Calabrians Multicultural World Society Inc. is an organization that promotes the fundamental freedoms guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, including freedom of conscience and religion, freedom of thought, expression, peaceful assembly and freedom of association. The organization believes that these fundamental freedoms are legitimized through equality before and under law and that they be afforded equal protection and benefit of the law.
Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal benefit of the law without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, age or mental or physical ability. It does not curtail or restrict freedom of expression as long as it does not infringe on the basic rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Charter.
The Calabrians Multicultural World Society Inc. bases its ideology on civil liberties and the libertarian philosophy that rights and freedoms are dependent on the right of dissent. As such, it is neither directly affiliated with any political party nor does it attempt to convey an image of a special interest lobbyist group. The organization promotes inclusion, not exclusion, and as such, does not restrict its membership to any one group or affiliation and serves the interests of all persons who believe in freedom, liberty, and dignity for all persons.
