Teaching Evaluation
Peer Review
These are some of the statements some of my colleagues posted about my teaching:
|
"I have known Joan Marques for nearly ten years in her capacity as graduate student, teacher and colleague. I worked closely with her while I was serving as Dean of the School of Business and she was completing her MBA and I have had the opportunity to observe her as a member of the Woodbury faculty, and have been a guest lecturer in her classes.
Joan possesses excellent people skills and communicates very well with her students who admire and respect her. Her lectures are well prepared and she seems to have a passion for her subjects. She has the ability to involve the students and stimulate their interest in the subject.
Joan is very dedicated to her profession and very conscientious and focused on objectives to be achieved. She is a prolific writer and enjoys engaging in research related to her profession.
In summary, in my judgment, Joan has the professional and personal characteristics that make her an invaluable asset to Woodbury University."
Sincerely,

As Faculty at the department of Mathematics and Science at Woodbury University, I have had the opportunity to work and attend classes with Professor Joan Marques. We also participated in several university workshops together. Professor Joan Marques has impressed me with her subject knowledge, commitment to the learning process and ability to bring out the students through her outgoing, facilitation skills. Most impressive is her style that allows students to flourish and develop their creativity in important social issues.
I have had the privilege of knowing Professor Joan for the past six years and worked with her on several projects. I am impressed with her high energy level, professionalism and teaching expertise. Students in my classes continually praise her teaching skills, knowledge, creativity, motivation and drive."
Sincerely,

"I have known and worked with Dr. Joan Marques at Woodbury University since early 2005. Joan and I were introduced to one another by the Chairman of Woodbury University’s Business School, Dr. Satinder Dhiman. Previous to our introduction, and stemming from my background in media and entertainment, I had proposed to design and teach a series of MBA-level courses on the industry to Dr. Dhiman. Since Joan also had a background in the industry, Dr. Dhiman suggested that she and I co-instruct these courses together. Woodbury’s business program incorporates leadership as a theme, so we jointly decided to call our program "Leadership in Media."
Joan and I quickly found ourselves working in a most complimentary manner. Due to her extensive knowledge and research in leadership, Joan handled the task of characterizing the qualities and persona of leadership while I focused more on the business and contextual issues surrounding the media and entertainment industry. Joan also leads the interactive portions of our program, encouraging our students to think aloud, question the circumstances posed by myself and guest lecturers, and share timely information from articles and papers the students bring to the class sessions. Joan is a pleasure to work with and an inspiration to her students."

Career influence of my classes on students
I am proud to know that there are some interesting examples of students who changed their focus on basis of the influences of my teachings:
|
"When I first started school at Woodbury I thought that once I received my Bachelor’s degree I would be done with school. Well, I suppose I could be done but I would only be doing myself wrong. Our current discussions in class about the business world have also made me consider taking a few classes here and there even after I establish myself and become financially independent. There are just some things that a person can't pick up anywhere else but in school. It makes for a well-rounded individual. I am a firm believer that variety is the spice of life. So between a class or two here and there and staying current to what's going on in my particular field of business and touching the tip of the iceberg about what’s happening in others I should stay up to par."

"I am starting my own business next year and I hope to be able to implement all of the lessons I learned in this class to my business, especially the exit strategy. Before taking this class, I had not considered planning an exit strategy, but now I think it’s a good idea. Of all the important points, the most important for me would be the public speaking. This class has boosted my confidence to speak in public more than any other class."

"I recall the night that Dr. King (guest lecturer in IB 350) spoke and on the drive home, I made an immediate decision to study international business when the time comes to enter the Master's program. I never gave much consideration to Global Enterprise, but the thought of traveling and experiencing and embracing other cultures would be the idea career progression for me"

"Overall the course turned out to be very inspirational for me. I am seriously reconsidering my career options about what I want to do. I have a great love for my home country. Therefore, I am trying to find tools to reconnect my life here (in the U.S.) with back home (Armenia). I think this course gave me the opportunity to understand and analyze some of those possibilities to achieve those goals."
