ANJ'S QUICK 'N' DIRTY UTENA PAGE!

Utena sure has a lot of hair, doesn't she?

And quick and dirty it is! This page has one and only one purpose: providing folks with the tracklistings for the soundtracks to the anime series Shoujo Kakumei Utena. (By the way, you won't find any mp3 files here. Sorry.)

I should make it clear that I am in no way claiming ownership of this info. I originally got the romanized Japanese track titles for OSTs 1-8 from Todd Harper, who ran Themes of the Revolution. (Sadly, in October 2000, Themes of the Revolution, a once-essential bookmark for any Utena fan, shut down.) Todd did grant me permission to post the tracklistings, thus they are here courtesy of the (also now defunct) Utena Encyclopedia.

And while the album titles were translated when I got them, the individual track titles were not. Verthandi translated the track titles for OSTs 1-8 for me, for which I am extremely grateful. Three cheers for Verthandi!

And then there's that pesky Vocal Collection. That CD ws never mentioned on Themes of the Revolution, so I scanned the tracklist from the back cover. My scan, which looked crisp and pristine when I viewed it on my hard drive with my software, somehow got garbled after being uploaded to the server and viewed with a browser (any browser). I even made a totally new scan and uploaded it, and it still went funky. I never figured out why. But even with my lousy scan, Chris Kern, with input by Gramarye and Kourino Arashi, took up the challenge to both romanize and translate the track titles. How about some applause for these fine folks? Yeah! (Update: With the 2005 move to a new server, the original scan now displays just fine. So if anyone wants to give it a fresh look, go for it!)

Oh, and Chris observed that there are some differences between my tracklists and those offered on other websites. Alas! Unfortunately, since I can't read Japanese, I am at the mercy of my sources. I provide all the information on this site "as is." However, I am happy to make corrections if you tell me about a specific error and how to fix it.

And one last note. "Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku" is generally seen translated as "Absolute Destiny Apocalypse." But Chris and Kourino agree that "The Ultimate Revelation of Fate" is a more accurate translation. So that's how you'll see it translated in the tracklist for the Vocal Collection, but I've kept the original translation in the other lists.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena Original Soundtracks

If you want that piece of music that Touga is listening to in episode 15, be aware that it's not on any of the soundtracks. However, Shan-chan was kind enough to inform me that this is the "Largo," the second movement of Antonín Dvořák's "New World Symphony" (also known as Symphony no. 9 in E minor, "From the New World," 1893). You should be able to find a recording of this anyplace that sells classical music CDs. Or you might be able to check it out from your local library. Thank you very much, Shan-chan, for this information.

The original creator of this page, Anj, went in search of folks to host her Web site, and I, Death Quaker, volunteered, so this is DQ's "near-mirror" of her site. Anj's site originally appeared 2-13-2001, with the last serious update on 1-27-2003. Death Quaker put up this version of the site on 5-29-2006; except for this here footer you are reading right now and a few other minor changes, the page design is unchanged from how it was as Anj made it (because frankly, DQ likes it quick'n'dirty too *wink*). There will be no further updates beyond any necessary changes to broken links, etc. Please mail any comments to DQ at mistress@deathquaker.org.
