STOP PRESS! October 1999 The future of Christ Church CE Primary School, Milman Road, is SAFE!! The school will become the first primary school in the UK to benefit from the government's "Fresh Start" policy. This in effect means that the school will close one day at Easter 2000, and reopen as a new school the next day. There will be a clean sweep of staff, etc.
WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR GRATEFUL THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED OUR EFFORTS TO SAVE THE SCHOOL; PARENTS, FRIENDS, CHILDREN, THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL PRESS AND MEDIA AND THE NATIONAL, INTERNATION AND INTERNET COMMUNITIES, ALL OF WHOM HAVE PLAYED A VERY VALUABLE PART IN SAVING THIS VERY SPECIAL LITTLE COMMUNITY CHURCH SCHOOL |

Below is a copy letter from the Parent Governors at the school,
dated 7th June, 1999. I think it speaks for itself
.So now we know. The school will close at the end of the Christmas term and either:
|
1. all the children will have to be found places in other schools. |
|
2. all the staff and Governors will resign. But the school will reopen in January under new management for a fresh start. |
If we want the Council to choose option 2 then we have one month to make our case. A strong demand from local parents for a good school on this site will be very persuasive. If you want a school here, please join the campaign.
What can you do now?
Firstly, tell one of us that you are on the side of the school; (send an e-mail), or speak to us at the school gates.
Then write to your local councillors. Their names and addresses are below. Tell them why you need the school.
Whatever your reasons, put them as clearly and forcefully as you can.
In the end, the shortcomings of the school identified by OFSTED have not been sorted satisfactorily - for whatever reasons. However, in January we shall get an entirely fresh start, provided we can prevent the school from being closed altogether. Isn't that what we all want? Let's work together for that.
From Your Parent Governors
