W H Y I W R O T E T H I S G U I D E =================== ======================================================================= A lot of you who are making several modifications to the code, and a lot of you who just love Wolfenstein probably have the urge to ask "Why the heck did you write this guide??" Well, I wanted to encourage some competion in the community. I mean, we can all sit around, and go our seperate ways with our own add-ons and Tcs, or we could all go back to the basics and see what put Wolf 3D on the map. It wasn't good coding or spectacular graphics, it was atmosphere and level design. If we wanted good graphics and coding, we wouldn't still be loyal to Wolf 3D. So, enjoy this guide, and realize that these maps were the roots (not the first) of all 3D shooters. I don't know about you, but I think racing through Wolf 3D is damn fun (and damn frustrating). ======================================================================= == 3. G E N E R A L I N F O R M A T I O N ========================= ======================================================================= 1. USE THE 'STRAFTE' KEY ------------------------ Always make sure to use the strafte key (the 'alt' key by default) as much as humanly possible. If you turn around too much, it takes more time, therefore eliminating your chances of getting a competing time in the future. Plus, it's less confusing, because you face the same direction when you strafte. 2. USE THE 'RUN' KEY -------------------- This should be obvious. If you don't use the run key ('shift' by default), you won't get anywhere at all. Plus you'll get killed by guards you try to outrun a lot more often. 3. KILL ONLY THE NESSISARY -------------------------- If they don't pose a threat to you, don't kill the guards. It takes too much time, and if you have a wave of nazis following you, you need to keep on movin'. This gets harder to tell in The Nocturnal Missions, because of the amount of guards and some tricky placement of guards. 4. TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS POSSIBLE ------------------------------ If it's a glitch in the game, a secret shortcut, or by a lucky chance of floorcodes (like e4l2), take it if will give you a faster time. It's not cheating unless you use any keyboard commands. ======================================================================= == 4. W A L K T H R O U G H S ======================================= ======================================================================= NOTE : ALL WALKTHROUGHS ARE INTENDED FOR THE BRING EM ON MODE. THEY CAN BE USED FOR ANOTHER MODE, BUT THEY'RE NOT INTENDED FOR THEM. So here we are to the meat-and-potatoes of the guide, the walkthroughs. These took awhile to consturct, so I hope you enjoy them. ======================================================================= == 4a. E P I S O D E O N E - E S C A P E F R O M ============ W O L F E N S T E I N ======================================================================= The first episode of Wolfenstein can be difficult if you don't know where you're going. It's very easy, otherwise. So, here we go: Level One --------- - Open the first door and turn left. In the big room, kill the guard really fast. - As soon as you open the first door or the wood panneling, shoot, and hopefully you will kill him instantly. Pass by the guard in the alcove. - In the next room, kill the guard closer to you (on the left), but ignore the other one. Once in the left door, turn around, then use the strafte and kill the two guards waiting for you. - Blast the next guards with one shot, and just run through the rest of the level, killing any guards that get in your way. Target Time : 25 seconds Level Two --------- - Go foward and keep looking foward while you strafte past the first guard. - Once you get to the bluestone room, run past that guard, and turn left in the next room (I'm sure you all know this). - Now you're in the huge room, where guards converge on all sides. Make sure to kill one of the police guys, one dog, and a guard, then grab the machine gun and run to the key room. If you do this very fast, the other police guy won't be into the main part of the huge room yet. - On your way back, just run past everybody, shooting occasionaly to stall a guard. Ignore the nazis in the alcove area with the table, and quickly kill the two guys in the next room. Target Time : 31 seconds Level Three ----------- - Immedietly run foward and ignore the first guard on the right, killing the nazi facing you in the next room. - Blast the two guys in the key area, and, in one swift motion, open the door, kill the guy, grab the key (and some health if you need it), and try to get back to the door entering the bluestone area before it closes. - Ignore the guard down the long hallway, open the door closest to you, and strafte left, only killing guards that get in your way. - In the next room, get the nazi on the left, and disregard the other one. Once you get to the exit place, pray there aren't any guards close. If there are, just kill them quickly. Target Time : 29 seconds Level Four ---------- -
