My Prairie Dogs!

Andy was our first.   Andy came from a breeder in South Dakota.
When we bought Andy from a pet store, he was 8 months old.
He was born in the spring of 1997.
We named him after "Andy Sipowiz" on "NYPD Blue."   Love that show!
Andy doesn't like people in our house and acts like a
real bad butt, but he is sweet.  Andy will sleep with us all night in bed.

Bobbi was our next PD, for Bobby Simone, Andy's partners name
at the time.  Bobbi came from Texas.  When we got her she was only
9 weeks old, and had to feed her with a syringe.  She was born spring
of 1999.  She is quite hyper and doesn't like to be held for long,
then it's off to explore.  Unlike Andy, she doesn't mind people, in
fact...  we take her to schools and show the kids and tell them about
prairie dogs and their plight.

Ny is the newest, he is a blue prairie dog.  Ny came from a
private ranch in Texas.  When a white PD mates with a brown PD
it makes pastel colors, pink, fawn and blue.  He will get his full color
by the time he is 3.  His fur is really soft compared to the other two.
When we got him, he was already 1 years old.
Being a blue pd, we decided to name him Ny because he is a PD
and he is blue, so that makes him NYPD Blue.
Hey...  gotta keep the theme!
He is the sweetest PD too, anyone can pet him!

He is a regular in bed at night.

Rena came after the disappearance of Andy.  Rena is a Pistol!
She was born spring of 2000.
She is very controlling of Bobbi and Ny.  She came from some real
good friends of ours, thanks Christa.  Rena is a lover for small
periods of time, she loves to be held against your face and
scratched.  She will close her eyes and hug your cheeks, she is
a little heartbreaker.

Tazzer came to our home in Oct. 2000.
One day we got a call about a sweet female PD in need of a home.
Having connections with lots of PD people they called us.  Knowing
someone in Pennsylvania and/or Chicago that might want her we
went for a look.  Tazzer was born spring of '92.  She is the most laid
back PD I've seen!  She will lay on you for hours and let you
know when she needs to go potty.  Needless to say...  she was so
sweet, we decided to keep her for ourselves!

Boogie or Boogieman came to our house spring of 2001,
he was born spring 1997, a families son went to College
and Boogie felt abandoned, not wanting him to feel this way, they
wanted to give him up to a family that would spend time with
him.  They called us and we decided to add him.  Come to find out,
Boogie was bought at the same place as we got Andy and in the same year...
Andy's brother...   could be, he does have the same temperament.
Boogie was nasty when he came to us, feeling abandoned he wasn't in a good mood.
After a month of talking to him, petting him with a thick leather glove,
he calmed down and has since been living with Bobbi, Ny and Rena.
He has never tried to bite since he has calmed down.

Plus, he sleeps with me a lot.

Precious and Dakota came to us a couple days before Boogie,
they were given up by a nice family that were building a house
having their first baby and felt they did not have enough time for
Precious and Dakota.  They called us and we said ok, what is 2 more.
They were both born in the spring of 1998, they are not fixed and we are not
going to have them done.  Maybe some day they will have babies,
probably not because only about 1-2% have babies in captivity.
It is too stressful so it doesn't happen.

This is Sweetums (right) and Billy (Gibbons).  I brought
them back from Texas Oct. 2002

This picture makes Sweetums look big, but she is just fluffed up,
she is small.

This is Somersault, he is blind and has brain damage, that
is why he stands like that.  We figure maybe a dog had him in it's
mouth and shook him badly.  His face was all scratched up and made
him blind.  His balance isn't there either, he falls over a lot when he eats.
But he is a sweetie, I have even got him to sleep with me.
No one really knows how old he is, once a prairie dog is full
groan, it is hard to tell.  But looking at his hair and other things,
I would say 4 or 5.
He came home with me Oct 2002 from Texas.
