SALSA VILLA

Salsa Villa schedule (Dublin)

Salsa Villa´s weekly night club and classes in the Temple Bar Music Centre, Dublin, have been a runaway success since their launch on January 5. The club regularly attracts over 200 people - among the highest numbers anywhere in Dublin on a Tuesday night. Salsa Villa has responded to strong demand by accelerating the availability of classes. Intensive salsa lessons kick off on February 5 and 6 and also in Tallaght, on Wednesdays (see above for details of both). Salsa Villa is part of the Afrimania dance group set up by Joshua E Tasia (aka Dr Rumba). Born in Nigeria, Josh established himself as a dance innovator in the capital Lagos, before moving to London five years ago, where he developed his successful classes/nightclub formula under the Salsa Villa banner. The UK experience reflects what has also occured in a global explosion in the US and Europe. Despite its latin style, salsa was the preserve of a small group of enthusiasts in Spain, for example, just five years ago. Now salsa lovers, or salseros, can dance through the night every night of the week in dozens of clubs. Josh feels Dublin is ripe for the phenomenon to be repeated here. "Look around - there are people here from all over the world. Dublin has a cosmopolitan flavour and a cosmopolitan appetite." Ireland has also grown much wealthier and when people have money to spend, they look around for new cultural experiences. It starts with food - at this stage there is hardly a part of the world not represented by a restaurant here. Then it moves on like it is doing all over the world as well to other cultural experiences such as dancing."
