Just as Christ's most important teaching was LOVE.
Buddha's most important teaching is THE TRUTH. When one captures
"THE TRUTH" within ourselves, one reaches enlightenment...correct?
How does an "enlightened man" act, feel, think...? The only way we
can know this for sure is by carefully observing the lives of those
who have reached enlightenment.
Do you remember when Buddha was a young prince and he came out of
his castle and he was overwhelmed by the suffering he saw around him?
It hurt him!...It hurt him so much he gave up his life in search for
the answer.....but why did it hurt him so much? Because he was still
young and he hadn't reached enlightenment. When he became the Buddha,
he no longer suffered....Why?...What happened? His perception changed!
In what way?....He suffered when he was young because he thought that
the suffering which he witnessed was...WRONG! He thought to himself!
Why?.....People shouldn't die...they shouldn't hurt and kill each other,
they shouldn't lie and cause each other so much pain. THIS IS WRONG!
First he opened his heart to the suffering. He must have been a very
compassionate and sweet man ever since childhood. His life was wonderful!
He didn't need to go through all of the things he did....but when he
saw
others suffering it hurt him just as much as if it had had happened
to him.
This is empathy...love....compassion. And then he searched for the
answer.
Do you know what he found out? That all the pain and suffering
and atrocities in this world were nothing more than blessings in disguise.
He saw that people suffered and cried because they were ignorant of
the
fact that it was precisely all these "atrocities" that purified them
and ultimately led them to enlightenment. You see Kuo-Keong, one can
not
sit placidly by as the Buddha did if we judge things as "good" or "bad"
because the moment we do, we begin to feel pleasure and pain.
Do you understand?
Yes!....He gave us "The Way" to follow. The things we should and shouldn't
do, but not because they were "right" or "wrong" but because that is
the
way that will lead us out of Samsara.
With Love & Metta
