Catherine Zbornik and Bernard Kipp Family

offspring of original northeastern Iowa pioneer parents

Mathias and Rosalia Kopet Zbornik immigrated to the United States in 1853 from Bohemia in the Czech movement into Ohio and Northeastern Iowa, with his parents Mathias Sr. and Rosalia Kopet Zbornik. The family settled into the northeastern Iowa hill counties by 1854, with later generations still there. Mathias and Rosalia move the family from the Dubuque/Clayton Co. area, to a small farm a few miles north of Spillville by 1855, and then in 1865 moved to a nice sized farm about a miles to the SE of Old Mission/St. Lucas in Auburn Twp of Fayette Co, where Mathias would live out the remaining twelve years of his life. Rosalia would eventually move to live with son John Henry in the Ft. Atkinson area, where she would pass away in 1900. Many of the remaining generations of Zbornik's and related would continue or farm or make their living in the NE Iowa counties, with some migration to other states to include Nebraska with the early Czech movement to that area.
