Iowa's "Route 66", just like IA 133, hits the mileage mark exactly. The water tower marks Diagonal's centennial, 1888-1988. Diagonal, pop. 312, has one of the smallest high schools in Iowa (around 40 students) and is sometimes used as an example of what's "wrong" with Iowa school districts by city newspapers begging for consolidation into mega-districts and mega-counties.
