Of the four churches in Ireton, two have "Reformed" in their name, from the Sioux County heritage of being settled by the Dutch immigrants who moved west from their original settlement in Pella. (Central and Northwestern College in Orange City are both connected to the Reformed Church in America.)

SOUTH End: Ireton, Sioux County

Facing south on 231

This DOT-standard sign set is the first and last indicator of a past state highway.

Facing west

There are a couple of possible ends for 231. This is one possibility. I know 231 turned west to come into town, but from where I think it came in, it would have met the business district at the south end. The route might have ended here, on Main Street, or turned back north to cover the block of the business district.

Facing south

If 231 did come in to the business district, its south end would have been facing north. This is looking south, along the possible first block of 231.

In the early 2000s an unsigned IA 231 was assigned to old US 34 through New London in Henry County. Why 231 was chosen is unknown.
