Tanith was driving in her orange Mustang convertible, blasting the radio down interstate 30, when her cell rang.
"Hello?" she said into the phone, as she turned down the radio.
"Hey Girl!" Kimberly said into the phone, “What are you doing today?"
"Nothing really. I'm driving to the mall right now."
"That sounds like fun! Haven't been there since... well, since yesterday! I need to do some more damage to my credit card. Mind if I join ya?"
"Not at all. Come on over!"
"Mkay! I'll be there uno momento!"
Tanith hung up the phone as she pulled into the parking lot. She saw a big bus in the back of it.
"Gosh. Nice bus,” she said to her self, “Probably some big actress or something."
She parked her car and headed for the food court. The girls always met there. It was weird. She stopped to get a bite to eat because it was around lunchtime. She got into the McDonalds line, it being the shortest with about 15 people in from of her. After about 30 minutes, when she finally ordered her Big Mac, she noticed a group of about 4 guys laughing and throwing french fries at each other, trying to make it serious. She rolled her eyes and went to find a seat in the mass of people. She walked by the table with the guys, who were still throwing french-fries at each other, when one of the boys went to scoot his chair back and stand up. He bumped into Tanith, causing her to lose her balance, and spill her Big Mac the floor. She bent down to attempt to peel it off the ground.
"I'm so sorry! Here let me help you," the boy said as he knelt next to her.
"Next time, be more careful when you . . ." her voice trailed off as she stood looking into his brown eyes.
Chapter 2
She stood the a few seconds staring into his eyes when she heard a familiar voice. She turned around to see Kimberly.
"Who's" the cutie?" she asked.
"I'm Joey," he blushed.
"And I take it those are your friends?" she said pointing to the guys listening intently to the conversation, one with a fry in his hair.
"Yeah!" the 4 boys replied in unison.
Kimberly sat down at an empty chair and started talking to the guys, but before she did she took the fry from the one boys hair.
"I'm really sorry about that," Joey said.
"No problem. I'm Tanith," she said as Kimberly and the guys got up to leave.
"Joey, you comin?" one of the boys with blonde hair asked.
"Be right there. Tanith, do you want to join us? I mean, you don't have to, but..."
"I'd love to," she said as she cut him off.
They spent a few hours at the mall joking around, trying on clothes, and picking on each other.
"Well, we gotta go," Justin said, "but keep in touch, okay?" The girls nodded and they exchanged numbers.
"They were cute," Kimberly said after the boys had left.
Tanith just nodded. She could've sworn they looked familiar, but she couldn't figure out where she knew them from.
"Before we leave, I want to go stop in Sam goody to see if they have any new cd's in," Kimberly said.
They walked into the music store and started browsing the different sections. Tanith had been listening to some of the girls at work talk about a group of guys, and they sometimes listened to their cd when they weren't busy. Tanith had liked the guys's sound, so she asked one of the girls what their name was so she could pick up a cd for herself. She couldn't remember it, so she just started browsing the pop section. When she got to the "N"s she found the group's cd.
"NSYNC... hmm... that's cool," Tanith said to herself.
She took the cd to one of the listening stations and started listening to it. She was sure it was them so she went and bought it. Kimberly walked up to her with a disappointed look on her face.
"They didn't have any new cds," she complained.
"When was the last time you checked?"
"Monday. I think."
"Kimberly, today's Tuesday."
"It is isn't it. Ooh that mean's I'm late! I gotta go. I'll call you later," she said as she rushed to her car.
Tanith got in her car, quickly unwrapped the cd, and popped it into the car's cd player. She turned it up and drove home. She reached for the case to browse through it.
"Wow, that guy looks a lot like Joey," she said looking at the front cover. She studied closer. "That guy IS Joey!"
