Angela knelt at an altar in a small church holding a revival in Eugene, Oregon in 1966 and surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. A life of neglect, abuse, street life, alcoholism and confinement in jail, juvenile home and mental institution. But at that altar all these "old things" passed away and she left that church a twenty year old "new creation". God had healed her mind and delivered her from the alcohol addiction that had so controlled her life. This was but the beginning of a "new life" that eventually propelled her into a ministry that still blesses thousands of souls across America. And the books of inspiration that came from her experiences bless thousands more around the world. |

"Searching For Happiness" an excerpt from Angela Buck's book "A Walk In Heaven"
We
came to a river,
and I was strangely
reminded of the young Korean soldier we met by a river at the beginning
of our
journey, and how he wanted to stay there forever. And at that moment, I
had a
feeling I was nearing the end of my journey here.
“Tell
me,” the angel said, “Why is it children, one
hundred years ago at Christmas
were content with
just two presents, but
today, after receiving ten
or twenty
presents, they’re still looking around for more. And simple
T.V. shows of fifty
years ago, seemed to satisfy people more than the fast moving, violent,
high
intrigue shows of today?”
“I’ve
wondered that myself,” I said. “I remember when
people went to fairs
with bakesales, animals and simple
things. But today unless they can go a hundred miles an hour upside
down on
some wild ride, they feel cheated.”
“Because
man on the inside is like a balloon,” the angel said.
“A
balloon?” I questioned.
“You
see,” the angel said,“The more air you put into a
balloon, the more it
stretches, and the bigger it gets, and the more a man fills himself
with things
that satisfies the flesh only, the bigger his fleshly appetite
gets.”
“But
a balloon will burst when it gets too full,” I said, laughing.
“But
the inner man just keeps on stretching,” the angel said.
We
sat down beside a tall tree. It was a lovely, peaceful place. The
angel, after
a quiet moment, said, “It’s amazing that man tries
so hard to obtain enough to
finally be satisfied, when the more he has, the less satisfied he
is.”
“I
know a man who has a million
dollar
house, a great job, a beautiful wife, and he still goes to clubs and
bars, to
find happiness,” I said.
“The
more a man searches for happiness
in the
wrong direction, the more he’s
driven in
that direction, and
that only leads
downward,” the angel said, with a concerned expression on his
face.
“Downward?”
I questioned, shuddering at the very thought.
“Yes,
downward,” the angel said, sharply. “And the
further down, the worse it gets.”
“Wait
a minute,” I quickly spoke up, “We’re
talking about a middle aged man, with
a PHD, and wearing
fine suits and all.”
Almost
laughing at my remark about a PHD, the angel then with a more serious
tone,
said, “When a man continues to yield to wrong desires, PHD,
fine suits or not,
those desires will drive him, like a car going faster and faster, until
it
crashes. And crashing at high speed won’t be
pretty,” he said, with as stern an
expression on his face as I had yet seen. At that instant, picturing
that man’s
car crashing head on into a concrete bridge, I felt a cold chill.
The
angel rose up from where we were sitting, and I followed. Suddenly a host of angels,
all dressed in
white and gold, appeared before us. One of them, with a warning in his
voice,
said, “Don’t ever forget what’s waiting
for you in this place.”
The
angel, with a quiet expression on his face, then said, “Do
you know you’re on
the last lap of your journey?”
Not
wanting to be reminded, I sighed in resignation and answered,
“Yes I guess my
journey here, is almost over.” Suddenly the angels, all
seemed to go upwards in
different directions, as if flying off to somewhere else.
“You’re
in the last lap of your earthly journey, too,” the angel then
turned to me and
said. “You see your earthly journey is like a man running a
race. (Hebrews
12:1) When the runner first starts out, he’s all enthused,
and full of energy.
But after many laps, he gets tired and by the time he finally gets
close to the
end, he’s so weary, he just wants it to be over, but he
can’t quit, because he
hasn’t finished the last lap.” Then turning to me
with a more serious grin, the
angel asked, “And which lap do you think is the
hardest?”
“The
last one?” I quickly answered.
“It
surely is,” the angel said. “By the time the runner
gets to the last lap every
inch seems like a mile. But don’t forget the rewards that are
waiting at the
end.”
.
We
came to what appeared to be a large city all made of gold. Angels and
saints
were everywhere. They all seemed so happy. The angel looked at me and
with
strained words, he
said, “There’s
sadness in the heart of God when one of His jewels turn back, yet
there’s great
rejoicing in heaven, when one of His precious ones makes it to the
finish line.
Can you see the finish line?” the angel then asked me.
“Yes
I think I can,” I said, after thinking for a moment on all
the wars, the
famines, the crime
and suffering and the
constant threat of a nuclear war, looming over us like a dark ominous
cloud.
“When
the clouds are full of water, the rains will come,” the angel
said. “Like
travail on a woman with child. When the birth pangs start, they only
become
stronger and more forceful until the child is born. All that you see
happening
on the earth, the wars and rumors of wars, fearful sights in the
heavens, men’s
hearts failing them for fear of what’s coming, shall all
usher in the end of
this age as you know it.”(Matthew 24 & Luke 21)
Right
then the angel, with his face gleaming with hope, said, “And
what did Jesus
tell you to do when you saw these things coming to pass?”
“To
look up,” I answered.
Then,
with a big grin, he said, “Do you know why you’re
still looking for His coming
when many are not? Because it has been conceived in the hearts of His
people,
by the Holy Spirit, to keep looking up, until He comes back for
them.” |
