Note: [from Freda Roberson Noble] Alfred Bennett Roberson served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Went off to war with John Thornton. Was taken prisoner by Union forces in Tennessee. At the end of the war, he and John Thornton walked back to Lowndes County, Alabama.

[from Freda Roberson Noble] A.B. Roberson signed Oath of Allegiance in 1865 in Lowndes Co AL in 1865

From The Monroe Journal, August 5, 1909

"On July 30th, the Lord called from us our deceased brother, A. B. Roberson after about 3 weeks of severe sickness, aged about 78 years, leaving six sons and five daughters besides a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss.

All of his children were with him in his last days. Nothing was left undone by medical aid and by no one else. Everything was done that could be done. All we can do is pray to meet him in Heaven where all is peace and love. He was a noble man to his fellow men and was true to all churches; he belonged to the Christian church; he was always ready to help the needy in every respect as far as he was able. Everyone assisted him while on his deathbed and did all they could for him but the Lord saw fit to take him from us to fill a vacant place in the great beyond and leave a vacant place here. But we all hope to meet him in Heaven where will will never part no more.

We all extend to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy and will ever help them in every way we can.

(signed;) Kat-e (C.?)asey"
