The Governor

Every state has an executive branch of government headed by a governor.  The governor is usually the most visible and well-know person in state government.  In most states a governor must be at least 30 years old, an American citizen, and a state resident for 5 or more years.

How does a governor get elected?  First, a person must gain the nomination of a major political party, usually by winning a nominating election, called a party primary.  In most states the person who wins a plurality vote is elected governor.  A plurality is the largest number of votes in an election.

How long does a governor server for?  The term of office for most governors are for 4 years.
