Go Ask Alice is a very raw, deep, and honest book, if you can call it a book. It is actually the diary of a girl we only know as "Alice". Alice is an average teenage girl, dealing with the pressures of a social life. When Alice's family moves, she makes new friends eventually, and everything's okay...until her new friends spike her drink at a party with LSD. Within the pages of her diary, Alice pours out her experiences with drugs, which are sometimes wonderful and sometimes horrific. Despite the fact that there are some rather dated references to hippies and use of old slang terms, Go Ask Alice has stood the test of time (it's been in print for 25 years), and continues to be an important book that both teens and parents of teens should read.
