Many people talk about Mp3 or at least they have heard about it, but not many really know what really is mp3. Mp3 is a file extension the same as .wav, .mid, etc. Bu what really makes the .mp3 extension importan and well known is that fact that the music files with this extension are relatively small if you compare it with the files with extension .wav, one of the extension most used for music files. A song in wav format(or wav extension) each minute occupies 10MB, that is a hell lot of space but through Mathematic Algorithms they could reorganize the information, because at the end eveything in a computer is just 1 and 0, creating the mp3 format(or .mp3 extension). With this one minute of song instead of occupied 10 MB, it occupies just 1MB.

After all this many people have to still ask: Well and why this is important to make this extension so famous?? The answer es pretty simple. With this change we can have the same amount of music taking 90% less space of our Hard Drive, but the best of all is that this kind of files(.mp3) have almos the same fidelity as a CD.

Out in the market there are other extensions that work pretty similar to the .mp3 one but or an unkown reason they haven't become as importat as the mp3. More over there are a few that can make the music file even smaller and more reliable for the users. We may have to wait for other format for the music files that will allow us to store more files music and taking less space, unit then lets enjoy the mp3 one. ;)

Most people who are against this kind of files are the people who make tons of money in the music business. Why?? Because with this kind of file the people don't buy CD's as much as they used to. Now we are able to download it for free. For now I think that this kind of file is great because we as users have the oportunity of saving a little bit of money and enjoy the music that we like so much.
