Railroads and railroading have been a life long passion with me. I grew up with the "Burlington Route" running by my back door as well as the back yard of my grandparents. I spent many an hour just sitting under a shade tree waiting for that sound. The deep earth shaking rumbling of the engines as they struggled against the weight of the train . I was not fortunate enough to have been around during the age of steam, but I have witnessed it's power, smells, and sound through the engines of the Union Pacific. Those days of mainline steam are gone forever but I can recreate it in HO scale to bring back those memories.

My memories are of the sleek fluted stainless steel of the early E series locomotives pulling the fabled "California Zephyr" passed my grandparents back door. I used to ride that train between Chariton and Burlington, Iowa once a month to visit my other set of grandparents. Both of my grandfathers had worked for the "Q".
