CHANGE OF HEART “What a good training session!” Jordan sighed happily, walking into the kitchen and rooting through the refrigerator. “Now what’s to eat? Ooh! Is there any mayo? Eww, pickles! Hey, ketchup!” Jordan said, making a sub. “Aaah, the perfect sandwich...now...what’s that noise?” he said, talking to himself, and looking around for the source of the stifled sounds he heard. Indiana was crying into her arms at the dining table, a glass of lemonade sitting in front of her. Jordan sighed. “Ummm...are you okay?” Jordan asked, unsure of how to act in this situation. “Go away you jerk!” Indiana said, not bothering to look at him. “FINE!” Jordan yelled, turning around and walking halfway out of the kitchen. He stopped, turned, his face still masked with anger. He sighed, grabbed Indiana’s hand, and pulled her up. “Come on, I have something to show you.” “What are you doing? Let go!” Indiana shrieked, but followed him as he lead her outside to his private beach. “Oh...wow...” her eyes fell on the crystal blue waters lightening the horizon that sits atop it. Sparkling sandy beaches that stretched on and on and palm trees that stuck up, reaching to the sun. “Yay!” Indiana did a running cannonball straight into the water, clothes and all. She didn’t care that she was soaking wet. “Hey Jordan, come on in!” “I don’t think so.” Jordan said strictly, leaning against a palm tree and sliding to the ground. Indiana ran up and grabbed his hand in a weak attempt to pull him up. “Come on, it’ll be fun!” Indiana laughed, pulling with all her might. He didn’t budge. “No!” He laughed. She let go of his hand and clasped her hands together. “Pleeease?” she begged, giving him a puppy dog face. “I thought I was a jerk.” Jordan said smirking, crossing his arms and leaning back against the tree. “Oh you are!” Indiana laughed. “But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun!” she motioned to the ocean stretched before them like a huge sparkling quilt. “Fun. You want fun?” Jordan said, standing up and staring her down. “You got it!” He streaked by her and jumped into the water. They spent the day swimming, building sandcastles, and collecting shells. “Oh look at the sea glass!” Indiana smiled, picking up small pieces of dark blue and coral colored sea glass smoothed into small round beads. Jordan strung them on a string and tied it around Indiana’s neck. She smiled up at him, hugged him, then they both sat by the base of a tree and fell asleep. |
