November 25, 1944-The Sakura is commissioned and joins Destroyer Squadron 11 for training operations.
February 17, 1945-The Sakura is assigned convoy escort from Kure to Shanghai, lasting until March 21.
March 15, 1945-The Sakura is ordered to join Destroyer Division 53, Destroyer Squadron 11.
April 1, 1945-The Sakura is assigned to the Second Fleet temporarily.
April 20, 1945-The Sakura is reassigned back to the Combined Fleet.
May 23, 1945-The Sakura receives minor damage as a result of striking a mine off Shimonoseki.
July 11, 1945-The Sakura is sunk as the destroyer strikes another mine, this time in Osaka Harbor.
