This is my home page dedicated to dirt track stock car racing in Iowa. The I.M.C.A. modified in the picture above is that of my favorite driver, Robert Avery from Des Moines, Iowa. You can catch him running weekly at the Boone Speedway—home of the I.M.C.A. Super Nationals.

Thanks for stopping by my page. I plan to keep the page updated a little more than last season, as long as time cooperates with me. Special thanks to Denny Grabenbauer for providing me with weekly results for Marshalltown.

"Cliff Chamber Memorial"

By Denny Grabenbauer

As the sky’s cleared, week number four was off and running this past Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway. Friday night marked the 14th Annual "Cliff Chambers Memorial" event to honor the former fan, racer and track promoter who past away in 1989. To many the memories of Cliff Chambers still run through the pit area on many given nights. "Back in the lean years of the 70’s if it hadn’t been for the determination of Cliff I don’t think the track would be here today", said a friend of Cliff’s, John Schroyer. "He just wouldn’t take no for an answer, he would do what ever it would take to keep this track running and we just can’t let anyone forget what he did for this place. This is the one night that my son Jeff and I want to win, because of our friend Cliff."

One hundred race teams signed in to try and add their name to the list of winner on this "Cliff Chambers Memorial" night. New names would once again find there way to victory lane plus it turn into a family affair pair of wins in the IMCA Stock Car and Modified classes. Rick and David Brown the brothers from Kellogg duplicated what they performed last Saturday in Boone. Both drivers won the features in their respective divisions. "This has really been quite an experience for both of us," said Modified winner David Brown. "I think that you always have the thought in the back of your mind that hey, someday we might both win features on the same night, but to do it back to back two nights in a row has to be some kind of record." And then the next similarity is that they both drive Ford power racecars. "Hopefully tonight we have made the Ford fans proud", say’s Stock Car driver Rick Brown. "And the real neat thing is that we both can put our name’s on the Chambers Memorial plaque for winning on the same night. We are both very proud."

The IMCA Modified feature would go 20-laps green to checker with David Brown leading the entire event. Challenged first by Duane Peterson then by Danny Fetters, Brown was on a mission. After an opening night feature win, Brown has had his moments of bad luck, but tonight luck was on his side and he took advantage of it. Fetters would finish second with Robert Schmucker and Duane VanDeest finishing third and forth.

Next up was the IMCA Stock Car feature and now it was Rick Brown who just into the lead at the drop of the green and held on for his second win in as many weeks. Slowed by four cautions, and holding off a challenge with Shawn Anderson, Brown took his Ford Thunderbird to victory lane. Anderson would finish a close second with Travis Thornton and Dusty Vis rounding out the top four.

Shifting gears to the IMCA Hobby Stocks two new feature winners and two new names to add to the Marshalltown history notes. Jerry Hinton and Ben Hoesing added there names to the Cliff Chamber Memorial plaque by posting victory’s in feature one and two respectively. Somewhat ironically, both drivers would win by making a late race charge to the front. Hinton did not take the lead until getting by Scott Durlin with two laps to go. Durlin would finish second with Neil Follett third. Hoesing on the other hand did not take the lead until past the white flag lap coming off of turn two. He went to the low side of Brett Breya to score the win. Breya finished second with last year’s winner Aaron Vann third.

Racing action will continue for week number five next Friday night with the annual "Scout Night" at the speedway. Any type scout just has to wear there uniform or show proof of them being a scout, will be admitted free of charge. There will be a special "Pledge of Allegiance" that the scouts will be doing before the racing takes to the speedway. Hot laps begin at 6:30 and the first green flag of the night will start at 7:30.
