MAC 1105/MGF 1106 departmental final exam

Line item analysis of multiple choice portion of final exam.

Identify areas of strength and areas of weakness and choose an area or weakness to address as a department.

Line items identified to meet this learning outcomes are:

MAC 1105 - #2, 7, 21, and 23

MGF 1106 - #16, 17, 18, 19, 23, and 29.

 Preliminary findings:

In Fall 2008, we collection another sample data set.  This data set had an N = 214 in MAC 1105 and N= 76 in MGF 1106.

The percentage of correctly answering all items relative to this learning outcome was 69.7% (a slight increase from summer) for MAC 1105.  The percentage was 64.25% for MGF 1106 .

Line Item breakdown of percentage correct:

MAC 1105:

#2 – 90.7%; #7 - 43%;

#23 – 71.1%; #29 – 55.3%

Department will meet beginning summer of 2009 to discuss findings from the academic school year.

A total combined percentage and line item breakdown will occur at the end of spring 2009.

Curriculum changes will take effect Fall, 2009 from outside consultant report.

Student will demonstrate the ability to graphically represent relations and functions along with the ability to interpret mathematical models such as formulas, graphs, and tables, and draw inferences from them.
