innocent in Florida.
More information is available, if you are interested.

A Statement of Paul William Scott: Innocent on Death Row

Help stop the execution of innocents in Florida!
Paul William Scott is an innocent man now in his 21st year on Florida's
death row. Like so many others he was convicted for a crime he could not
have committed. We have conclusive proof of his innocence, but Florida has
killed innocent men in the past and will undoubtedly continue to do so.
The governor of Florida justifies the killing of these innocents with
clemency hearings and capital collateral regional counsel representation.
Unfortunately, these pseudo-remedies don't have a clue as to the truth-they
blindly follow the statements of biased prosecutors. They place their faith
in "the system" which encourages prosecutors to win their cases damn the
facts.
The prosecutor in Scott's case wrapped his argument around fabricated
evidence (he hid the actual evidence), deception and lies (a common
practice). His star witness has since fully and totally recanted and every
juror except one has signed sworn affidavits acknowledging they were simply
duped in this trial, after learning the truth.
Parishioners of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Father Edward McElduff,
Professor Charles Rice of the University of Notre Dame Law School, at least
two Catholic Bishops and Sister Helen Prejean (Dead Man Walking, New York:
Random House, 1995) all agree: Paul William Scott is innocent.
Experts in pathology and DNA testing are willing to donate their time and
talent to prove this indigent borderline retarded man's innocence. But, we
are told, Palm Beach County cannot locate the blood or the evidence in Paul
Scott's case. Scott simply had "too many tattoos" an investigator for the
Palm Beach County public defender's office told Bob Pauley, who has written
a 350-page book about this injustice, early into this sham of a trial.
The actual murderer in this case has confessed many times. He is a free man
today after serving 15 years for second-degree murder. Paul had left the
house where the murder took place fully 3½ hours before the crime was
committed. Yet the prosecutor of these more than 20 years still follows
Paul to his every hearing, every trial, every appeal and he repeats his
20-year old ruse to the courts. Why?
The killer's parents had $45,000 for the system to plea-bargain for their
son's life. Might this have had something to do with Paul Scott's
conviction? Could this be the reason the actual murder weapon-an unopened
bottle of Dom Perignon champagne-mysteriously disappeared from Scott's
courtroom? After all, it had the fingerprints of the wealthy co-defendant
whose hand was badly cut from the wire around the cork of the bottle (The
public defender forgot to include him as a witness in Scott's trial).
What politics, power and money do to corrupt our system of justice is
unbelievable. Eighty-two cases of known wrongful death row convictions have
been documented since 1976; and there are many, many more death row
innocents locked away, praying for justice. Isn't it time to end this
legalized murdering of innocent indigents? The fact remains: Paul William
Scott is absolutely, honestly and obviously innocent and must be freed!
