Dear Professor Rice:
It was my pleasure to speak with you this morning, I appreciate very much your time and your help with Paul’s case.
Enclosed is information I had in my file on Paul that you might not have seen.
There may be a small amount of redundancy and irrelevancy, please forgive me. What I didn’t say is this:
Streetwise Paul was brought up to believe a "snitch" is the worst thing on earth. For 20 years he suppressed the fact that Kondian, the actual murderer, went back to James Alessi’s home some 3½ hours later with two accomplices and committed this murder. Paul did this to "protect" Richard Kondian and his (Kondian’s) accomplices. One of them was, in fact, the one who turned Paul over to the authorities in order to protect himself in another crime 20 years ago. He did not mention his own substantial involvement in the murder. As he was removing Alessi’s diamond ring Alessi regained consciousness and screamed out, at which time Kondian killed him.
The next day the accomplice signed and cashed a check (in an Orlando bank) for $700 he had accepted for Alessi’s ring at an Orlando pawn shop.
Paul’s public defender George Barrs, an alcoholic hack, conveniently "forgot" to include Kondian as a witness in Paul’s trial. Kondian made no secret of the fact he was the murderer ("Yeah, I killed a fag in self defense") but his attorney was busy getting him a lesser sentence with a plea bargain.
Many lies and much deception took place at Paul’s trial, to convince the jury of Paul’s "gullt". Since then all of them but one have signed sworn statements acknowledging they were duped and Scott was innocent.
