We enjoyed playing period-style games!

We did hands-on demonstrations and sold games at Renaissance Faires. Our lessons on period-style games were based on a "learning by doing" approach. After a short introduction into the history, origin, and interesting information about period board games, the students and teachers were given a chance to try out their newly gained knowledge. 15 to 20 game boards were set up so that students could try their hands at some period games. The games used were ones that took little explanation, can be played in less than 5 minutes, and require low skill level to learn, but can be complex if adequate study to the game is given.

The games include Achi, Alquerque, Fox and Geese, Hnefatafl, Horeshoe, Mancala, Nine Mens Morris, and Seega. Due to the limited time constraints of our demonstrations, we developed our website to include information on period-style games so that students and teachers could continue to learn about these games.
