Photos From the Top of the World
"Vodka from the top of the world" is how Finlandia vodka advertises itself. I'm not sure exactly how true that is, but it does make a handy title. Here, then, are a few photos showing some of what I accomplished during my three month stay in Helsinki in the summer of 1997.

Light is a big deal in Finland, they spend half of the year without very much of it all. To compensate they have a wonderful party in the summer on the longest day of the year. This is our midsummer party with the group I worked with this summer at the boat club in Esbo, just west of Helsinki.
Two of my three caretakers this summer, Nina Hyvonen and Netta Hellberg. Together with Marina Paqvalén, they listened to all my moans and complaints and helped to pick me up when I needed it. Great friends, without them I might not have made it through.
