The New Zanmi ("We are Friends") program is an all volunteer effort, comprised of Armed Forces men and women assigned to the United States Support Group in Haiti. We undertake all types of Humanitarian Aid missions, such as feeding the hungry, school-house reconstruction, distributing clothing, well repairs and medical treatment. All the projects are done in the service members off hours with the only compensation coming from the act of helping those less fortunate.
The Nou Zanmi program will never be able to fix the deep rooted governmental corruption or societal decay here in Haiti, but we can help some immediate needs for the most desperate. I am asking for your help. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY! We are not set up to handle those kind of donations. We need just basic items like clothes (hot weather), soap, toys and non-perishable food items (canned goods). I will personally guarantee that all these items will make it to those in the most need. You can not fully appreciate what we as American's have been blessed with, until you see the total abject poverty in a place like Haiti (the average annual income here is $225). The poorest of our poor are far better off than 90% of the Hatian population. Please help us make a small difference in the lives of those who so desperately need it. Thank you.
