DANVILLE--The Ice Eagles made their first road trip a successful one with two more hard-fought wins Saturday over an improving Champaign Chief team at the Palmer Center in Danville. The victories ran the Eagles' season opening winning streak to four games.
In the first game, the Eagles broke on top 3-0 on goals by Josh Moon, Brian Moriarty and Grant Reuter. The Chiefs finally ended their scoring drought and broke Goalie Brandon Kruse's shutout streak after 8 periods when they scored to cut the lead to 3-1, early in the third period. But they could get no closer.
In the second game, the Chiefs, bolstered by several players who had not made the trip to Davenport the previous week, took a 2-1 lead early in the second, only to have Moon tie the score at 2. Late in the second period, Will Hegwein took a Ryne Takacs pass between the circles and blasted it past the Chief netminder to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Moon and Takacs added insurance goals
to give the Ice Eagles a 5-2 win and complete the four game sweep of Champaign.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, October 31 at the QCSC with two games against Dubuque, before heading south for a Sunday morning matchup with Peoria at the Owens Center in Peoria.
