The Goose Girl painting is displayed in loving memory of my GG-Grandfather Downs whose family still has a Goose Farm in Co. Down. The Goose Girl painting was originally credited to William Leech and the National Gallery adopted the painting as its logo. The Gallery eventually conceded that the painting was in fact created by Englishman Stanley Royle. Despite this (maybe because of it), this picture is one of the most popular in the Gallery. The painting hits home with me and seems most fitting for my Irish Heritage. Though I haven't been to Ireland since 1976, I do plan to return, God Willing.
