Topic: Another Entry

I've always thought that my birthdays were crap. I always looked forward to them every single year and some how it just never turned out to be anything close to what I wanted. I've wanted to change that for awhile and never really knew what to do to change it.
So far for my 40's for sure they've been much better. Like my Christmas ritual of buying myself presents and wrapping them, I've tried to do something different for each birthday. For my 40th birthday, since it was a leap year and I was born in a leap year, I decided to go to the spa for both Feb 29th and March 1st. I got reflexology, a body scrub, hot stone massage and a whack of other massages and pedicure and manicure. I did the lunch both days with champagne. It was a rocking birthday. For my 41st birthday, I bought myself an ibook, which I've wanted since they were invented, ha ha. For my 42nd birthday my friend Yan Yan threw a surprise get together for me - which was awesome.
This year was the first year that I wanted to actually organize something with people. I realize that I have some really sweet friends that always allow me to call the shots... if I want to be alone, they let me alone until I'm ready; if I want to be around people, they show up. So this year aside from getting together for a fine meal and much laughter, I also decided that I wanted to buy presents for my friends for my birthday. Now receiving presents on your birthday is a mighty fine feeling, as we all know, but giving presents to others on your birthday truly rocks.
Everyone is so thrilled by it because they aren't expecting to receive a present. It's a cool experience and has made this the best birthday I've ever had. I gave the second to last gift to my bartender (it's the bar I go to so he's my bartender, ha ha) and even he was thrilled. And it's an excuse for another hug. In my question the other day about whether I have the potential to be an addict, perhaps I'm addicted to his hugs! I've got one last present to buy for my breakfast buddy and I'm all set.
That old adage is true, if you want to receive, give. I've received more joy by giving others a present for my birthday.
Next year I'm doing the spa again for Feb 29th and March 1st since it's another leap year, this time I'll be bringing a friend who has never been spoiled by the beauty of spending a couple days at a spa being catered to.
Happy Birthday to Me!

My readership seems to have doubled! Don't you folks know I never really talk about anything? ha ha! Verbal diarrhea may be my middle name. As always, I'm thrilled to have you visit my little corner of the Internet and thanks for reading! I hope some of my entries leave you with something worthwhile... Shelley with an EY.
