Operation Torch
Operation Torch began in 1942 after Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to attack the "soft underbelly" of the Axis. The Allied forces landed first in Morocco and Algeria. Victory was easy in that area and the Allies quickly moved to Italy in 1943. The invasion was a success and the Italians soon overthrew Mussolini. By 1994 the Allies had control of Italy, but the Allies still had much to do.
