Statement
Mission Statement - To prepare all our children for life
Our School aims to:
- Encourage our pupils to know that they are valued, and to feel
positive about themselves and their learning.
- Encourage our children to respect other children, other cultures,
and other perspectives.
- Encourage our parents to be involved and supportive in their
learning and in the development of their school.
- Challenge children with quality learning and meaningful
responsibility of their own growth and development.
What is expected of our children?
- A greater belief in their own ability, and pride in their work.
- An awareness of their own learning needs and achievements.
- An ability to set their own learning goals and work towards them.
- A willingness to share their achievements, knowledge, ideas and
feelings with others and to respect the rights of others to do
likewise.
- An ability to work towards their own academic excellence in the
essential learning areas.
- A caring attitude towards themselves, each other and their working /
playing environment.
- A deeper awareness and appreciation of Papatuanuku and their role of
guardianship of our Mother Earth.
OUR LOCAL CURRICULUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Our School will become involved in the changing world, using our local
history and natural environment.
We aim to:
- Give all our children an excellent grounding for a lifetime of
learning.
- Give children direct experience of the exploration of the natural
environment, in order to develop an appreciation / love of these
resources.
- Develop historical knowledge of Hauraki.
- Develop an awareness and understanding the Te Tangata Whenua.
- Gain knowledge of the services and industries which our town offers
to our urban and rural population.
- Continue fostering care and consideration for others by involving
pre-school and high school children in our school.
HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THIS?
We can achieve this by working with our total school community in
providing:
- A warm, supportive learning climate and environment where all our
students have opportunities to advance their own development in the
essential areas of Languages, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social
Studies, The Arts, Health and Physical wellbeing.
- Balanced programmes of work that focus on the skills, the knowledge
and the understandings of the National Curriculum Statements and the
new Curriculum framework.
- An emphasis on programmes which cater for individual differences and
cultural learning styles.
- A major focus on Mathematics; the learning in and the promotion of
Te Reo Maori; literacy skills especially reading and writing, and the
ownership of one’s own learning.
- A schoolwide supportive atmosphere where working together is a
feature, where children respect the boundaries set with them and
wherever the child’s right to learn is treasured and advanced.
- A parent / teacher / pupil climate that reflects partnership,
involvement, mutual respect, support and a keenness to achieve and
excel.
- A learning environment that reflects and treasures our natural world
and highlights our place and relationship in it.
