Yehushua

As my child lay in a hospital bed,
the chaplain told us gently
about the passage in Isaiah
that said Jesus would understand our suffering,
that He would live on earth as flesh and blood
and would know what it was
to be mortal.

What is the meaning of our plight
To Beings made of light?
You will understand our pain
When You come back again.
You struggled through a mortal birth.
You walked upon the earth.
You were sometimes tired and poor,
Discouraged, insecure.

Throughout the grinding, year by year,
You felt both hope and fear.
You took the brunt of others' greed.
You laboured in Your need.
You paid the price when others lied.
Your body slowly died.
You learned how hard it is to bear
The feeling He's not there.

In your glory I will see
That You know all about me.
And even if it means my death
I'll know with my last breath
That all which I was told is true–
The Covenant... and You.
And I will stare, incredulous
That You were one of us.
