Analyze the factors that led the major European powers and the United States to engage in imperialism during the late nineteenth century.

E)        Describe the extent of European imperialism by 1914.

F)        Who were the major imperial powers?  Where were their main colonies?  What European countries were not imperial powers?  Why?

 

G)       What factors led to the United States’ interest in imperialism?

H)       How did the U.S. acquire Alaska?

I)          Describe how the United States acquired control of Hawaii.

 

J)         What effect did Cuba’s fight for independence have on the United States?

K)      What was the immediate factor that led the United States to declare war on Spain?

L)        Why was the Spanish-American War described as “a splendid little war?”

M)     Describe the role that Theodore Roosevelt played in the war.
