EIGHTH GRADE IRT FIELD TRIP

The eighth grade will be going to IRT main stage on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 to see the performance of Jitney, which deals with the African-American experience and the struggle of a community undergoing changes in the 1970s.  The IRT program describes the play as follows: “In a shabby jitney cab company in 1970s Pittsburgh, a gallery of gypsy cab drivers struggle to find respect in economic hard times. A released prisoner arrives looking for their boss, the father he has not seen in more than twenty years. This unexpected reunion forces father and son to talk face to face, unleashing a generation of pent-up raw emotion in this unforgettably vivid drama by a master American storyteller, August Wilson.”  The performance will last two hours and forty minutes with one intermission.

Following the performance, the class will eat lunch at Circle Center.  Students should dress appropriately for the theatre and bring money for lunch.  We will depart for IRT promptly at 9 a.m. and should return to Sycamore by about 2 p.m.

As always, we are in need of drivers for the trip.  Please fill out the following form and return it to school by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13.  Tammy Brantley has graciously agreed to assist with driver coordination and will contact those who are available.  A ticket will be provided for drivers, but you will have to take care of parking.  If you do not want to attend the play, I would ask that you plan to meet us at Circle Center by 1:30.

Please contact me by phone (253-5288 ext. 166) or e-mail (jstroebel@indy.rr.com) or Tammy (580-1061) if you have any questions.
