Welcome to Suradi Imports. I am excited to tell you a little about our company and to introduce some of our products and programs for 2001.

First, an Overview of Suradi Imports. We founded Suradi Imports in 1998 with a goal of bringing high quality handmade Indonesian products to the North American consumer. Quality materials and exquisite craftsmanship have long been a trademark of Indonesian products. I became determined to tap these resources to introduce a line of products that are both functional and decorative for our American homes. We chose to work primarily in Javanese plantation grown teak wood because of its strength and beauty as well as its abundance in the area. All Javanese teak is harvested from highly regulated plantations in which constant reforestation projects operate. All of our products are handcrafted in the traditional manner, lovingly cut, carved, and finished entirely by hand, so you can be confident that each piece is a true original.

We offer a variety of handmade wood products for the home and garden. Our teak all weather patio boxes are versatile as well as beautiful. They are perfect as planters in the garden or on the patio, or use them indoors for magazines or towels. Whatever its use, the Suradi patio box is a fine addition to any home. Our ever-growing line of carved teak sculpture is another unique addition to any garden. Left outside, they will weather to a silvery gray color, adding a perfect weathered look to your garden. Placed inside and oiled regularly, their deep golden color adds warmth and life to any room. New this year is our hand carved coat rack available in two traditional Javanese designs. This piece is a true example of art and function. The fine hand carved relief added to a five peg wall rack results in a truly original and elegant piece. We are excited to introduce our newest product, the Suradi plant table. This fine handcrafted teak table is designed to keep your plants healthy and your floors clean. Potted plants rest directly on the two to four inch tall table. The slatted design allows excess water to drain through the table onto a small plate placed underneath. The unsightly, water-stained plate is hidden under the table and the plant is elevated to allow ample drainage, thus eliminating root rot which often kills houseplants. The Suradi plant table is another example of Suradi Import's commitment to form and function, its simple design fits almost anywhere in your home. These are just a few of the many original handcrafted products available through Suradi Imports. We also supply antique Javanese benches, garden furniture, and many other furniture items and accessories. And because we work directly with the craftsmen, our prices are often 10 - 20 % lower than companies offering similar products. We also welcome inquiries about special orders. Suradi Imports acknowledges that building a business in a developing country carries a certain amount of social responsibility. We at Suradi Imports are proud to take an active social role in the local community. In working directly with the craftsmen, I often travel into the villages to meet with the craftsmen personally. In this way we are able to eliminate the large local distributors who buy from the villages at low prices and sell to the overseas market. This enables us to save on cost while also ensuring that the village craftsmen get a bigger share of the profit. Our finishing department, where the pieces are sanded and oiled, is located in Solo, Central Java. This city was hit especially hard by Indonesia's recent economic crisis, leaving a large number of people unemployed. Suradi Imports is proud to employ unemployed young men and women from Solo in our finishing team. We not only provide them a job and wage to bring home to their families, but also teach a valuable skill which they will be able to use throughout their lives. We at Suradi Imports value, above all, education. So we are proud to introduce our newest program, the Suradi Beasiswa Scholarship Fund. Founded just last year, the scholarship fund provides high school tuition for qualified youths whose families cannot afford tuition fees. Because of high tuition fees, many Indonesian youths are forced to leave school at the age of fourteen or fifteen. The Suradi Beasiswa Scholarship Fund allows academically talented youths to continue their education through high school. This program is still in its first year and we hope that as our business grows we will be able to expand this program to meet the needs of more families.
