Here's another short blurb on Gale's new series VANISHED from the Fox network's upfront last Thursday: Joanne Kelly plays the abducted wife of a Georgia senator (John Allen Nelson). The FBI agents trying to find her include Ming-Na, Rebecca Gayheart and Gale Harold. Fox ambitiously promises that VANISHED "combines the investigative twists and turns of CSI, the nonstop pace and tension of 24 and the scope of The Da Vinci Code."

Network TV's fall lineup is full of scripted dramas, departing from the reality TV/game show trend. In an audio clip at the National Public Radio website, Jeff Pinkner, executive producer of Alias, tells Linda Wertheimer why he thinks networks are moving in this direction. VANISHED is described as a "character-driven" show. There are a few brief clips of the new series, including Gale's voice as his character FBI agent Graham Kelton shouting, "Responding units be advised... the subject may be armed and dangerous!"

For those who haven't seen them yet, Getty Images has several photos of Gale Harold at the FOX upfront. He is seen posing with Ming-Na, who will play an FBI agent working with Gale's character Graham Kelton. Their poses appear on page 5 of 7.

Independentfilm.com has an interview with Fay Ann Lee (director and star of East Broadway) which took place at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The Crossville Chronicle features an article about Randy Harrison (Justin, QAF) by Krista Richmond, reporting on the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Jim Slotek reviews Rhinoceros Eyes in The London Free Press. He writes, "A hit at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival, Rhinoceros Eyes sat for 2 1/2 years after its American production company went bankrupt. That was a shame, but its belated release is a great chance to see what a movie-and-a-vision looks like, minus studio shenanigans interference." [read more]

Mercury News has an article on the history of gays on TV, listing some of the defining moments for gay characters on television. QAF gets a mention for 2000: "Queer as Folk,'' the first drama set in the gay community to show relatively explicit lovemaking, makes its debut on Showtime.

Stephen Kijak reports that editing is going very well on the Scott Walker film, of which Gale Harold is an associate producer. He says, "we were just in Toronto for the Toronto Documentary Forum where we showed samples to a forum of the world's top broadcasters and about 250-300 observing delegates and the response was great. My favorite response came not from the top commissioning editors, but from a 20-something year old film student who was there as an observer - he had never heard of Scott and not only did he think ours was 'the best' pitch out of about 30+ projects, but he was running out to start his Scott Walker collection that day. That alone tells me we are more than on the right track."

Peter Paige's film SAY UNCLE now has an official website! Head on over for a peek at some of the goodies...

The Futon Critic has brand new pictures of Gale Harold and the rest of the cast from VANISHED. The summary reads, "A thrilling national soap opera erupts when the wife of a prominent senator disappears and the senior FBI agent assigned to the case discovers it is part of a larger conspiracy in the new drama." You'll find the pictures about halfway down the page.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the upcoming third season of HBO's "Deadwood" might mark the end of the dark Western. The pay cable network has opted not to pick up the options of the actors on the show, releasing them to pursue other projects. "Deadwood" creator David Milch is shifting his attention to "John From Cincinnati," a one-hour project he is writing for HBO. The surfing-themed drama has been ordered as a pilot, subject to finalizing deals on the financial and talent side. HBO sources said there are conversations about the future of "Deadwood" beyond the third season, which premieres June 11. But with the actors moving on to other commitments, it is highly unlikely that all the main cast members would be available to do additional episodes in the future. Gale Harold is scheduled to appear in episodes 8 and 9 of the upcoming season.

Matt Battaglia (Drew Boyd on QAF) had a guest appearance on "Bones" last Wednesday night as Captain Fuller, a soldier in Iraq who comes under investigation after one of the men in his unit is murdered and the investigation leads to a cover-up of other murders in Iraq. Matt will be a celebrity guest on the upcoming "20 Sexiest Southern Women" special, which will air over Memorial Day weekend (May 27-29) on Country Music Television. The show will feature celebrity guests, sports stars, writers, comedians, fashion designers, etc. all commenting on the beautiful women in the special. The 20 Sexiest Southern Women list includes: Ashley Judd, Sandra Bullock, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Tiffany Fallon, Molly Simms, and Sela Ward to name just a few.

East Broadway has one more screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, this Friday afternoon. Cinematical published a review of the film, in which Martha Fischer declares, "there’s a charming lack of seriousness to the film that renders it surprisingly watchable." [read more]

For those who are still wondering about Gale's appearances in The Unit, the listings show that there will be two back-to-back episodes airing this coming Tuesday, May 9th, as well as on May 16th. "Unannounced," featuring the return of Rory, the radio station manager, will air at 9pm on May 9th. "Exposure" will air at 10pm. The remaining two episodes are #112 (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) and #113 (The Wall), both airing on May 16th. As far as I know, Gale only appears in one of these: episode #110. For a complete list and a brief description of each episode, visit The Futon Critic. To view a clip of the upcoming episode, visit the official website at cbs.com.

Stephen Kijak has updated the ALBUM PRESS for Scott Walker's new release The Drift on the film's webpage. There's a new article in Filter, Momus' review of the album, etc. He invites everyone to come by and have a look. 4 AD (Scott's label) have put up "a cool site devoted to The Drift - with a Scott chronology penned by Pennman, (Sir Ian, that is), and my lord, get over there and download your Drift-desktop wallpaper NOW! (did you ever think you'd see the day...?) Effin' brilliant," says Stephen. Again, for newcomers to the site who want to know why I'm posting about this "music stuff," Gale Harold is an associate producer on the documentary film, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man.

In an article for zap2it.com, Rick Porter tells us that the pilots for '06-'07 promise lots of continuing action. "...the networks all seem to be on the hunt for a big, tune-in-next-week drama for the fall. They'll reveal their choices the week of May 15 at their annual upfront presentations to advertisers," he writes. "The prevailing model for serial shows this spring seems to be not "Housewives" or "Lost," but FOX's "24" and "Prison Break." At least three drama pilots -- ABC's "Day Break," FOX's "Vanished" and NBC's "Kidnapped" -- will follow the "24"/"Prison Break" model of following one big plot over the course of the season. "Vanished" and "Kidnapped," both of which have already been picked up for next season, concern high-profile abductions, while "Day Break" stars Taye Diggs as a cop trying to discover who framed him for murder."

Much press has been given to the TV networks' preparation for the Fall lineup, with the upfronts just a little over a week away. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Fox has already picked up "Death" and "Vanished" (Gale's new series). The two series were generating buzz in the development cycle, and their promise was confirmed when Fox execs watched footage from their pilot shoots, FBC executive vp Craig Erwich noted. "When you know, you know," Erwich said. "We decided, 'Why wait three weeks when an extra three weeks will only make them better?'" As the first fruit of the current TV development cycle, "Vanished" and "Death" are well positioned for the pick of the litter among available writers, producers and directors needed to shoot their next 12 episodes. "Vanished" is a one-hour serialized drama chronicling a conspiracy enveloping the disappearance of a senator's wife. The cast features Christopher Egan ("Empire"), Gale Harold ( "Queer as Folk"), Joanne Kelly ("Jeremiah"), John Allen Nelson ("24") and Rebecca Gayheart ("Nip/Tuck"). "'Vanished' is incredibly engaging in the way a great mystery is," Erwich said. "You're sucked in by the questions and teased by what you think the answers are."

Ming-Na, one of Gale's co-stars on Vanished, recently updated her website and had this to say about Vanished:
"Hey Everyone! Great news! My new pilot, "Vanished," has been picked up by the FOX network for 13 episodes this fall. I am very excited about this. My character will be Special Agent Lin Mei, FBI. How cool! OK, need to start working out. Will need to be in total shape when we start shooting in a few months. Keep an eye out for this show. More news when I have some to share." Looks like it will be a true Fall premiere for this show if shooting is still at least a couple of months away.

"Turning the Paige: Interview with "Queer As Folk's" Peter Paige" by Loann Halden is a wonderful and revealing article about QAF's brightest flame. "Emmett was so good-natured and so adventurous and positive and willing to stick his neck out there, even if it meant getting his head smacked. That was really useful for me as a person," says Paige, who exudes the genuine warmth (without the flamboyance) of his best-known character. "You keep doing that for long enough and it starts to sink in a little bit. It's certainly something I take with me. 'Say Uncle' is the single bravest thing I've ever done, and I think I learned a lot of bravery from Emmett."

There are photos at wireimage.com of Peter Paige at the Geffen Playhouse for Arthur Miller's play "All My Sons," on April 19.

The Saskatoon Star Phoenix reports that Paper Moon will open the show at Amigos this Saturday (632 10th Street, East Saskatoon) making a stop on its Western Canadian tour. The band's recent second outing, Broken Hearts Break Faster Every Day, showcases some sweet and sincere pop-rock that's also ultra-catchy. "Like a friendlier version of Metric or a more consistently great version of the Cardigans, Paper Moon has dialed into exactly what it is that makes a great pop song," writes Emmet Matheson of The Leader-Post. The band's bio points out that Moon tunes have been featured in over 20 films and television shows including Queer As Folk, Falcon Beach, and Party of Five.

From the National Ledger comes this report about Hal Sparks and the "Zero 1" CD he's getting ready to release with his band. "It's called 'Indian Summer,' and it's about a girl I knew in high school who died in a car accident. She was drunk and she drove into a ravine and she and one of the other kids was killed," he recalls. "I remember I had a huge crush on her but never worked up the nerve to walk the 8 feet across the hallway to say 'Hi.' I keep thinking had I done that maybe she wouldn't have been at that party." The comedian-cum-actor, who's currently hosting the reality series "Survival of the Richest," says, "It's not that I feel really guilty, but I definitely regret that, so I deal with it openly as much as I can in my music." Sparks is putting his CD out independently, and it will be available through halsparks.com and CDBaby.com. "I've gotten offers from record labels, but it's like do you want to make 10 cents on your record or $10?" He and the band plan to head out on a world tour this summer, and proceeds from the Stateside tour will benefit "the Save the Music Foundation for VH-1," he says. "I'm a big believer in musical education. Music alters the brain and makes you think better. So my goal is to give a guitar to each local chapter to pass on to some kid to use."

The Sun-Sentinel has a great article titled "Designer creates bling for same-sex couples" written by Rod Stafford Hagwood, fashion columnist:
Jewelry designer
Udi Behr remembers the exact moment he decided to develop a luxury collection for lesbians and gay men. "This goes back to the summer of 2004," Behr explains from his Manhattan studio. "The mayor of San Francisco was on Larry King and I thought, `This guy is making a lot of sense.' ... Love is a very difficult thing to find, gay or straight. So I decided to design a gay wedding band right there and then." So Behr -- whose baubles have blinged the likes of Gwen Stefani, Sharon Stone and Angela Bassett -- designed and developed the Love & Pride fine jewelry line of wedding bands, commitment rings, bracelets and necklaces for same-sex couples. Prices range from $30 to $5,000, with most pieces available in 18 karat gold, diamonds, stainless steel and two-toned combinations. "I did some research and most of what was out there was made of inexpensive materials and tended to be very repetitive ... a lot of rainbows," Behr said. "There really wasn't a lot of thought put into it. Gay people should have that kind of respect, too. They should have something on the level of Gucci or Bulgari."

It is not the first time he has melded activism with design. His Love, Peace & Hope collection commemorated 9-11. It is the first time he's had difficulty getting a line placed with a mainstream retailer. "I've been a jewelry designer for 22 years and I've never had so many doors shut in my face. No one wanted it. So I did the Web site www.loveandpride.com at first. But I'm a stubborn Israeli and when you tell me I can't, then I have to prove you wrong. I was heartbroken all the time. People said that I was going to alienate my straight audience." After two years of working his retail contacts, things started to turn. Last year he was tapped by Showtime to use the Love & Pride line in The L Word and Queer As Folk. That led to an article in the New York Times profiling the father of two. And not long after, Saks Fifth Avenue launched the line (Saks already had his Love, Peace & Hope collection). Last month there was a champagne reception/trunk show for the collection at Saks/Galleria in Fort Lauderdale, one of the first events for the luxe department store and the fine jewelry line. "It's a small step for retailers, a colossal step for equal rights," Behr said. "If no one came, it would have been a win for me. We didn't have a big crowd, but I'm proud to say that everyone who came to the trunk show actually bought something."
