There seems to be an abundance of press for Sharon Gless these days, and with good reason: she's working more than most actresses half her age. Actress Gless finds prolific career after 'Cagney & Lacey' is a new article by Mike Hughes in the St. Cloud Times.

From Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal: "Celebrity Paranormal Project" premieres July 4 at 10 p.m. ET on the specialty network Slice. The series invites a posse of B-list celebrities - in the opener, Gary Busey, former "Queer as Folk" star Hal Sparks and past "Survivor" champion Jenna Morasca are among the semi-famous - to spend a night recording their observations while wandering the halls of a haunted site. Think "The Surreal Life" meets "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" Producers armed the celebs with ghost-hunting gear, including electromagnetic field meters and thermal cameras. They were able to measure sharp drops in temperature - thought to indicate the presence of spirits - as well as strange moving objects. Says the author, "Wandering the dark and dilapidated hallways at 3 in the morning was for me more sad than scary. As Sparks remarks in the opening episode, there is a lot of 'sorrowful energy' in the place."

SW30 (the Scott Walker film documentary of which Gale Harold is an associate producer, which I probably don't need to keep repeating for those of you who read this page regularly, LOL) has been added to the roster for the Auckland/Wellington editions of the New Zealand International Film Festival at the end of July and beginning of August. Visit nzff.telecom.co.nz for more details.

Speaking of New Zealand... last month I mentioned that Robert Gant was there, working on a film for the here! network. The title of the film is "The Delphi Effect" (previously named Second Chance), and it's about an ex-US spy (played by Robert) who is brought out of retirement after he receives a mysterious call from his ex-spy partner (played by Shannon Doherty of Beverly Hills, 90210 fame). John Rhys-Davies stars as the Spy chief. The Delphi Effect (or Delphi Method) is based on the assumption that group, as opposed to individual, judgement of trends can improve the validity of forecasts. New Zealand's Field Sounds has been chosen to record the sound on the film, from distributor Regent Entertainment who are working in partnership with Chris/Rose Productions (LA) and Auckland Film Studios. A few photos of Robert and his co-stars are available at the Field Sounds website. Take a peek at one of the actresses in the film, Nina Knight, who was made up by artist Monika Malik to look like an elderly person for her role here.

There is now a MySpace page for Professor Ben Bruckner (the character Robert Gant played on Queer as Folk). Hop on over and check it out!

From MovieWeb.com: When spies get fired, they don't get a letter from human resources, they get BURNED. Blacklisted spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) doesn't plan to take being "burned" lying down. He wants to find out why he's been terminated and by whom. Meanwhile, Westen puts his Special Ops training to use, helping those who the police can't or won't, in order to fund his ongoing personal investigation. Madeline (Sharon Gless) is Westen's colorful hypochondriac mother. Weston and Gless recently sat down for a conference call to discuss their new show, Burn Notice. Here's one of the questions:
Sharon, are you finding any connections between the gay community that you explored with Queer as Folk, and now the spy community with Burn Notice?
Sharon Gless:
No. Not so far. The only similarity is that both my sons were named Michael. So I find different ways to say the word Michael so that nobody gets confused. They couldn't be more different. They're as different as night and day. There's a very, very different energy. In character, I'm trying to get my son hooked up with some wonderful woman. Somebody that will stay...
Jeffrey Donovan: She's a terrorist! How can you want to hook me up with an IRA Terrorist?
Sharon Gless:
This will keep you in Miami, baby.

The Rick & Steve website has gone live, complete with character profiles for the new animated series on Logo. Steve Ball, the versatile top (voiced by Peter Paige) is Rick's husband, a gym bunny and complete hottie, who's not very bright but makes a lot of money off his charm by selling shoddy real estate. He is the oldest of 8 boys in a conservative Southern Evangelical family. He dropped out of high school and turned down a shot-put scholarship to follow a lover to Europe, where he was promptly dumped. Real estate never interested him, but owning stuff did, and this made him lots of money... And money ensured he'd have lots of tight asses to plow well into his old age. His patience and temper are short but he's sincere and always acts with the best of intentions. He's dedicated and determined, which allows him to spend two hours a day at the gym. His love for Rick is unquestionable, but his need for spicing up their sex life grows exponentially with each passing weekend. Meet the rest of the characters

This past weekend, shooting started on "To Live and Die in Dixie," a feature-length movie from the Grand Valley State University film program, directed by John Harper Philbin. Principal filming is scheduled to last through July and employ 45 students, as well as Los Angeles-based cinematographer Jack Anderson. "Dixie" is a true-crime story about a murder on a college campus and incorporates a love triangle and courtroom-drama elements. The detective investigating the killing will be played by Scott Lowell (Ted on Queer as Folk). "Scott Lowell and I go way back," Philbin said. "He and I did a film together in grad school where he played Beethoven. I called him up and asked him if he was free this summer, and he said 'yes.'" The film is scheduled for an April 2008 premiere at Celebration Cinema North and will get a theatrical run at all Jack Loeks Theatres in Grand Rapids.

Del Shores, writer and co-executive producer of "Queer as Folk," was the grand marshal for the Indianapolis Pride Parade this past weekend.

Scott Walker: 30 Century Man opened exclusively at the Irish Film Institute in Temple Bar, Dublin on June 8th. The movie received five stars in the Irish Times and Entertainment Ireland.

AfterElton.com covers the screening of "Save Me" at NewFest, the New York City LGBT film festival, this past weekend. The reviewer writes, "The fest closed with Save Me, a film starring out actors Chad Allen and Robert Gant as men who live in an 'ex-gay ministry' run by a well-meaning Christian woman, played by Judith Light. The film was definitely one of the highlights of the festival both due to its star wattage and the message of understanding that it offered to both gay and Christian audiences. And the post-screening Q&A with Gant, Light, and the film's director and producers offered even more insights, including the great news that the film will be released in October through Roadside Attractions. A bona fide gay film in theatres? Somebody pinch me."

"We observed that this country is obsessed with this issue, but that this country is not talking about this issues," noted producer Herb Hamsher, during a post-screening Q&A session. This film, Hamsher noted, is intended to start the conversation.

The article continues... "During the Q&A, Light and Gant spoke about their involvement in the project (both are also producers), which manages to discuss the issue of 'gay reparative therapy' without demonizing either the men who seek this kind of help or the individuals that claim that they can provide it."

When asked about his own sexuality and career, Gant had this to say:
"I came to terms during Queer as Folk that as much as much as I want to make a great living, and following along with the mindset in Hollywood that you can't be gay and make a good living, I decided that following the truth and being who I authentically am was vastly more important in the balance of things. And I've experienced that that has been proven true and of great benefit to me, and i wouldn't have made any other choice in the world. As a result I've realized what it means, and that's that you have to participate in that process in a different way -- you have to create things to help create your career, your future. And you can do that -- just, you have to take these things one step at a time. And I'm really grateful to have the opportunities and the forum to live my truth and be openly gay -- and who knows what's going to come from it. All i know is that I'm happy and that I wouldn't choose to do it differently at all." Needless to say, this garnered a big round of applause -- as did the film itself, which managed for the most part to steer clear of melodrama in its telling of a love that grows in an unlikely setting.

Sharon Gless stars in the new USA series BURN NOTICE premiering June 28 at 10pm. For a video preview of the series, visit the USA website.

You can read a fairly comprehensive bio of Sharon at mediafiends.com. The Connecticut Post Online gives BURN NOTICE a great review: "Sometimes a show arrives with almost no fanfare and ends up delighting you with its wit and spirit. USA's new spy thriller "Burn Notice" is just such a show. It stars Jeffrey Donovan (of the network's excellent but short-lived drama "Touching Evil") as Michael Westen, a spy who learns that a "burn notice" has been issued on him, meaning he's been blacklisted by all the government agencies he works for. Financially wiped out, Westen ends up in his hometown of Miami, looking to figure out who ruined his life. Quick-paced and clever, "Burn Notice" is filled with little joys, including supporting roles for the likes of Sharon Gless (who plays Westen's hypochondriac mom) and national treasure Bruce Campbell. Don't miss it."

Tom O'Neil gives Sharon Gless a nod for her work on THE STATE WITHIN in his predictions of likely contenders for best actor and best actress nominees in the category of movies/miniseries for this year's Emmy Awards (LA Times Calendarlive.com).
