Another DVD signing update: Scott Lowell's scheduling conflict has been resolved, and he is once again set to appear in Detroit on March 8.

  February 19, 2003

DVD signing UPDATE: Gale Harold, Scott Lowell and Thea Gill will be making an additional appearance in Reston, Virginia on March 2, following their two appearances in Washington, DC on Saturday, March 1. Thea's name has been removed from the list of actors scheduled to appear at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 27, most likely due to her ACTRA Award nomination (the Awards are being presented in Toronto that evening). Annie (of Scott Lowell's site) has just reported that due to shooting schedule conflicts, Scott will be unable to appear in Detroit on March 8. Peter Paige will be taking his place alongside Gale and Michelle. View the Appearances Chart for a complete listing of events.

For those interested in reading a review of the Season 2 DVDs, Peter M. Bracke gives a fairly detailed synopsis of the offerings at dvdfile.com. Warning: if you are planning to purchase the DVDs and do not want to be "spoiled" you may want to hold off on reading this review for the time being.

Morrison
The official Particles of Truth site is up and running... it's fairly simple, with three sections... cast, storyboard, and credits. There is a great shot of Gale as Morrison on the cast page, accompanied by the following description: "A neurotic recluse who spends most of his time in his car writing about what he thinks other people are thinking about and not confronting his father."

Kyle
The official Wake site has been updated with new pictures, a new movie clip, and a Q&A with Gale Harold (scroll down the page past the interview with the Finches). Gale describes his role in the film as a real departure from Brian Kinney. He says, "after nine months of playing a role on a series, you learn it’s a completely different approach to character development than in a film. I’d never worked on a TV series before, and the dynamics dictate that characters can’t really change very much, particularly in an ensemble show like Queer As Folk. It’s just one of the stylistic trappings of television: you can’t move too far or too fast. You’re sort of in suspended animation, which is entirely different from film. You can’t have every character going through an arc every week. So the opportunity to explore and immerse myself in a role like Kyle, in a character-driven film such as this is something I really welcomed."

Robert GantI've posted a transcript and screen captures of Robert Gant's appearance on Open Mike with Mike Bullard which aired Tuesday night (Feb. 4). I must say, Bobby looked quite yummy! If you can get past Mike's sophomoric behavior, it's worth a peek.

Peter PaigePeter Paige is back in Toronto after his trip to Aspen, Colorado last week for the Gay Ski Week. Addressing visitors to his website, he shares a few details of his wild weekend. "The Comedy Night was tons of fun, as were the other parties and fundraisers." Peter did a little snowboarding, but unfortunately took a tumble and ended up with a concussion! He is recovering, thankfully, but he did experience some dizzy spells and backaches. Poor baby! :( On the bright side, it seems Peter and his producing partner are busy putting together investor packages and meeting with 'money-types' in an effort to secure financing for his first feature as a director. "It's a demanding and sometimes overwhelming process," he says, "but I'm tremendously excited about the film, which keeps me plugging away. Hope you all are staying warm - it's been un-fucking-bearable here in Toronto - and are having a Happy 2003. Peace on Earth (don't get me started)." Two words, Peter: Amen, and LAYER! (fellow Northerners know what I'm talking about, eh?). This reminds me of what Patrick Antosh said when I asked him what the cast wears when filming outdoor scenes during the cold Canadian winters. He told me that although they have diverse weather conditions in Toronto, it is pretty predictable and they're prepared for anything. Each cast member has their own set of warm ups, including thermal underwear (but none of it is for sale!). Darn.

Michelle ClunieMichelle Clunie has been named one of the "Wonder Women On-Air" by Multichannel News. In an article dated January 27, 2003, the magazine says her portrayal of Melanie "is like everything else on the show: frank, gritty and a pulls-no-punches portrayal for viewers" and is not 7quot;cookie-cutter or a haven for stereotypes. Clunie's character always shows, often in surprising ways, the price to pay--deserved or not--for pursuing life's course as she does." The article is available to Multichannel News subscribers here.

Ever hear that expression 'When it rains, it pours'? Well, folks, hang on to your hats, because there is a plethora of news to report today!

Actra Toronto
Thea Gill has received a nomination for an ACTRA award for Outstanding Performance (Female) on Queer As Folk. The Awards will be presented by ACTRA Toronto at The Royal Ontario Museum on February 27th, 2003 as part of ACTRA's 60th Anniversary celebrations. Congratulations, Thea!

For those who have been following Showtime's "Day in the Life" series, it's Thea's turn next. Apparently the actress has just filmed her segments, and we will let you know when it goes live on the site.

There is a new QAF advertisement featuring the QAF gang in smoky black eyeliner, underscored by a clever caption, 'You know you want it'. A scan has been posted at the rrambles group homepage.

The Particles of Truth page has been updated with new storyboards for the movie in which Gale Harold stars.

Robert Gant is scheduled to be on Open Mike with Mike Bullard tonight, Tuesday, February 4, 2003 on the Comedy Network and on CTV in Canada.

Appearance updates: The DVD signing slated for March 8, 2003, featuring Robert (Bobby) Gant, Randy Harrison and Hal Sparks, will take place at Borders book store in Atlanta, Georgia, 3637 Peachtree Rd. NE, Ste. C. For those attending the Detroit signing, it will begin at 7pm at the Borders on Woodward Avenue, about 1/2 mile north of 14 Mile Rd on the East side.

Robert Gant
Robert has another appearance coming up on March 15, 2003. He will be the featured speaker at the 6th Annual Houston Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala Dinner and Silent Auction at the Intercontinental Hotel, 2222 West Loop South, Houston, Texas, with co-chairs Shari Heyen and Tim Kollatschiny.

Check out some pictures of Robert at the Out 100 Party: Los Angeles on November 22, 2002 at the here Lounge, sponsored by Skyy Vodka and Perrier. In addition to the picture seen here, Robert is featured with other Out 100 honorees Jim Verraros of American Ido, producer David Janollari, performer Monica Palacios and Shannon Elizabeth. Chapter 1 of the new QAF book "Every Nine Seconds" has been posted at the SimonSays.com site. You can also send a postcard featuring the book's cover here: send a postcard.

Hal Sparks is scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of "Ask Rita"--a new, 30-minute syndicated talk show hosted by comedienne Rita Rudner. In a recent Las Vegas Sun article, she describes the show as "Dear Abby" meets "Politically Incorrect." "We just discuss people's personal problems instead of political problems," she says. "There are four guests on each show, two men and two women -- comedians, celebrities, journalists. We discuss people's personal lives, based on four or five letters people have mailed to me. Sometimes I have a solution and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I leave it to the audience. There's a local psychologist I consult with. He helps me if there's anything serious I have to address. We discuss all the letters with him beforehand." The letters come from a website called ritafunny.com. Guests on the first series of shows include Dennis Miller, Howie Mandel, Kevin Nealon, Leeza Gibbons, Phyllis Diller, and even Heidi Fleiss. Hal Sparks will appear on February 5th, 2003 along with Cathy Ladman, Dana Gould and Stephanie Hodge. Check your local NBC affiliate for airtimes.
