The FBI most wanted

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released a list of the 22 most wanted terrorists.

US president George W Bush said the publication of the list was designed to "shine the light of justice" on the suspects.

"They must be found. They will be stopped and they will be punished," he added.

The US government is offering a reward of up to $5m for information leading to the successful captures of many of those on the list.

The FBI website details physical descriptions, aliases and other information about the suspects.

The list in full

  1. Osama Bin Laden
    Wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.

  2. Muhammad Atef
    Indicted for his alleged involvement with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. He is alleged to be Bin Laden's second in command.

  3. Ayman Al-Zawahiri
    Indicted for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi. Al-Zawahiri is a physician and the founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and is believed to be an advisor and doctor to Bin Laden.

  4. Abdelkarim Hussein Mohamed Al-Nasser
    Indicted in the eastern district of Virginia for the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers military housing complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

  5. Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah
    Indicted for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi.

  6. Muhsin Musa Matwalli Atwah
    Wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi.

  7. Ali Atwa
    Indicted for his role in the 1985 hijacking of a commercial airliner which resulted in the assault on various passengers and crew members, and the murder a US citizen. He is an alleged member of the terrorist organisation, Lebanese Hizbullah.

  8. Anas Al-Liby
    Wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi.

  9. Ahmed Ghailani
    Indicted in the southern district of New York for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Africa.

  10. Hasan Izz-Al-Din
    Indicted for his role in the1985 hijacking of a commercial airliner, which resulted in the assault on various passengers and crew members, and the murder of one US citizen. He is an alleged member of the Lebanese Hizbullah.

  11. Ahmed Mohammed Hamed Ali
    Wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi.

  12. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed
    Indicted in the southern district of New York for his alleged involvement in the 1988 bombings of the US embassy in Africa.

  13. Imad Fayez Mugniyah
    Indicted for his role in planning and participating in the 1985 hijacking of a commercial airliner which resulted in the murder of one US citizen. He is the alleged head of the security apparatus for the Lebanese Hizbullah.

  14. Mustafa Mohamed Fadhil
    Indicted in the southern district of New York for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Africa and for conspiring to kill US nationals.

  15. Sheikh Ahmed Salim Swedan
    Indicted in the southern district of New York for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Africa and for conspiring to kill US nationals.

  16. Abdul Rahman Yasin
    Wanted for his alleged participation in the 1993 terrorist bombing of the World Trade Centre, New York, which killed six and wounded several others.

  17. Fahid Msalam
    Indicted in the southern district of New York for his alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Dar Es Salaam and Nairobi and for conspiring to kill US nationals.

  18. Ahmad Ibrahim Al-Mughassil
    Indicted in the US for the1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers military housing complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

  19. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed
    Wanted for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy plot, based in the Philippines, to bomb commercial US airliners flying to the US from Southeast Asia in January 1995. He was indicted in the southern district of New York in 1996.

  20. Ali Saed Bin Ali El-Hoorie
    Indicted in Virginia, USA, for the 1996 bombing of the Khobar towers military housing complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

  21. Saif Al-Adel
    Wanted in connection with the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Africa. He is thought to be affiliated with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and is believed to be a high-ranking member of al-Qaida.

  22. Ibrahim Salih Mohammed Al-Yacoub
    Indicted in the US for the 1996 bombing of the Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia.
