THE FEAST

She lives between black and white.
Where light meets dark
and dark meets light.
Here, all  blend and mix
into the obscure shades of gray.

Evil lurks in the half light that shrouds her.
As the shadows awaken, she knows.
They come to suck the life from her,
drop by precious drop.

Infinitesimal morsels
make up the pieces of her.
Tidbits of delectable tastes and aromas.
The banquet table set,
They all come too feast.
They drink her life's nectar.

Suckle, expose, then walk away,
leaving in their wake a wounded body.
Yet they care not for the soul they drain.
As their nourished  bodies leave
only to return again and again.
The fire of them surrounds her,

all wanting, all seeking
they draw upon her knowledge
then leave her barren.
Fragments of shattered glass,
The prisms in which her light once shimmered.
Grow dim,
 the gray surrounding her.
Her light too feeble,
Her brightness diminishing
unable to blind off
all that come to gorge themselves.
They have sucked the life
from her.
