Notes on Alexander Grant Boyd's family



Alexander Grant Boyd brought his wife, Sarah Jane Turley Boyd and their twelve children, some of whom were grown and married, to Dewey County by train in 1892. They had previously lived in Illinois, had moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, and then to Dewey County, Oklahoma. Of the twelve children, six of them were boys and six of them were girls. Ten married and had children. These families were:

1. William Boyd. Married Clarissa Ross and they had two chldren: Frankie and Newell. William was a blacksmith in Fay, Oklahoma.
2. Jack Boyd. Married Fannie and they had eight children: Roxie, Earl (Babe), Wells, Princess, Walter, Nellie, Myrtle, and Buster Boyd. Jack went to Kansas where he work in the oil fields. He returned to Fay after retiring and lived in Fay until his death.
3. Grant Boyd. married Laura Frances Cavey and they had nine children: Jessie May, Nora Imo, Eugene Grant, Alta Lee, Eva Frances, Ruth Kay, Della, Paul, and Chester Arthur.
4. Dave Boyd. Married Lena Matlock and had four children: Berniece, Aubrey, Raymond, and Mary. Lena had homesteaded near Nobscott in Dewey County. After their marriage they moved Arkansas and lived there until their deaths.
5. James Boyd. Married Rose Godwin and they had seven children: Fred, Corwin, Justin, Lester, Vera, Farrell, and Glenn.
6. Turley Boyd. Never married and died while in his teens.
7. Nora Boyd. Married Newt Abercrombie and they had four children: Carl, Claude, Edith, and Edna. They farmed near Fay. Nora died while her children were very young.
8. Dora Boyd. Married a Mertz and had one son: Paul Mertz. Her husband died and she married a man named White but had no other children.
9. Laura Boyd. Married George Lucas and had three children: Marie, Buna, and Hershall. She and her husband homesteaded near Fay. He built the first store in Fay, which was a butcher shop. He also ran a Livery Stable. After his death, Laura went back to St. Joseph, Missouri and lived there until her death.
10. Nettie Boyd. Married Oliver Hardin and had a son Millard and a daughter Doris. She died while her children were very young.
11. Mattie Boyd. Married Young Abercrombie and they had eight children: Leatha, Glenn, Pauline, Irene, Orma, Geneva, Wayne, and Viola.
12. Jennie Boyd. She was a twin to Jack Boyd and died in her early teens, with no children.

Alexander and Sarah had 48 Grandchildren.

Grant Boyd, one of the children of Alexander and Sarah was born December 14, 1865. He married Laura Frances Cavey, who was born January 15, 1868. They were married February 24, 1892. Grant was 27 years old and Laura was 24 years old when they came to Dewey County, Oklahoma in 1892. Their first three children were born in St. Joseph, Mo. When Laura's time was near, she would take the train to St. Jo and Grant would drive the wagon from Fay to St. Jo. to be with her when their children were born. Their last six children were born in Oklahoma. Grant farmed. He built a brick home west of Fay. He made the bricks and then built the house. He ran a butcher shop in Thomas, Okla. for a while but returned to farming. He moved to Fay in 1927 and built a house and Service Station. He ran the Station until his death in 1935.

Grant and Laura had six girls and three boys. Their oldest, Jessie May, was born Dec 16, 1892. Jessie married Robert [Gunning?]. They moved to Enid, Okla. They had four children: Boyd, Donald, Everett, and J.E. [handwritten: Jessie died in Enid in 1956]

Nora Imo was born October 9, 1894. She married Lester Morse and they had four children. Lester ran the feed store and ice house in Fay. At the death of Grant, he took over the service station in Fay. He later ran a grocery store in Fay until his retirement. Their children were: Gordon, Betty Jo, Wanda, and Graydon. Imo died in [blank].

Eugene Grant Boyd was born Dec. 11, 1896. He married Ethel Daily Campion November 3, 1920. [Margie's note: Ethel's full name was Berniece Ethel Dailey Campion. Her biological parents were Fred Millard Dailey and Maud Irene Davis.]
