SAFE HAVEN FUND
The Safe Haven Fund has been set up for those wishing to help fund a
rescue of a horse from a slaughter auction. We travel to New Holland
PA (featured on WKBW tv in our story) as often as possible to rescue from
that auction. Our mare, Starr, was rescued frrom that very auction,
headed for slaugher, 9 months in foal. She gave birth here at the rescue
to a gorgeous colt on Easter nite! The auction is held every Monday
and prices vary with the meat prices for that week. Your donation
of $600.00 or more will enable us to save atleast one horse/pony and transport
it the 400 miles back to our rescue, safe and sound, never to see the horrors
of a slaughterhouse. Once here you will be able to name the new horse and
receive pictures and monthly updates until the horse is adopted
.
ADOPTION
Our rescue takes in horses from all different situations. Sometimes
a family encounters a situation in which they need to place their pet,
sometimes it’s a neglect/abuse situation, and sometimes it’s from slaughter
auctions. We take care of all the necessary medical, farrier, and
rehabilitation needs and then the horse is placed for adoption after a
period of evaluation. Sometimes the horse/pony is only suitable for
a pasture companion, and others are rideable, however, most need
work, whether it is training, gaining weight, or just plain old tender
loving care to help overcome fears. If you are looking for an equine
friend and feel adoption is right for you, please contact us. Pre-adoption
applications are necessary with reference and site checks to be done. The
adoption process also requires that we see you interact with the horse
on a regular basis until the adoption is approved and the final adoption
contract is signed. We try extremely hard to make sure we match
up the horse to the proper adoptive family so it is a happy transition
for both. Adoption fees are charged as we must try and offset some
of the costs until the horse is adopted, and to cover our initial purchase
price (if the horse is not donated) and vet exams. Fees vary, depending
on the horse, but can be expected to be between $200.00 and $1000.00. Please
understand, however, that although we wish all our adoptive homes to be
the horses final home, if for some reason the adoptive family can no longer
keep the horse, it must come back to the rescue. This is the
only way we can truly protect our horses. If you feel adoption is
right for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions,
or to see what we have available.
If you would like to donate a horse, please contact us at the numbers
below so we may further assist you.
We are here to help you any way we can.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are always interested in hearing from volunteers and possible foster homes. We also offer a retirement program if you wish to donate your horse, but do not want him/her adopted out. For a monthly fee of $75.00 your horse will remain at the rescue to live out his/her days with lots of TLC. We may be reached by phone at (716)433-2331, (716)993-6997, or (716)684-4560. Or you may email us at cripleridge@wnyip.net.
