The Birth
of Smiley
I am so excited!
Today I discovered papers concerning the birth of Smiley.
The graphic above is the closest that I have come, so far,
to the original but be sure of this, I will continue to hunt
because I know what it should look like.
He was not animated until much later.
Smiley was born in America, to the pen of Harvey Ball
& his first words were *Have a Happy Day*
The saga of Smiley can be viewed at Straightdope and I thank them
for allowing me to dip into their research.
There are other contenders for the honor of being the parent, including
one from France, but I believe Harvey Ball to be the true *Father*.
If you are a fan of Smiley you will find Straightdope very interesting.
Smiley became so popular that his face graces many, many items, found all
around the world. Even now, years later, they are EVERYWHERE,
The smiley icon makes the whole world smile.
