Subchorionic Hematoma in Pregnancy

also called subchorionic hemorrhage

Hello, my name is Robin. I created this webpage during my high-risk pregnancy. At 6 weeks, I began bleeding heavily and an ultrasound found a large blood clot in my uterus right next to my baby. The doctor called it a subchorionic hematoma. I had never heard of it before.

At 10 weeks, when my bleeding had worsened, and the clot was larger, I decided it was time to attack the hematoma with research, (since it was the only ammunition I had.) I was frustrated with the lack of information I found. Hopefully, if you are dealing with the worry that comes with a subchorionic hematoma, this page will provide some comfort through information, and hopefully reinforce to you, through other women's experiences, that you are NOT ALONE! There are LOTS of stories below from women who went on to have healthy babies.

I'm very sad to say, we did not end up with a healthy baby. We lost our baby at 20 weeks. (You can click here to visit a page dedicated to our baby.) However, mine was such a severe case, so please don't feel that you have no reason to have hope. Every doctor and nurse I encountered said they couldn't believe I had made it as far as I did. I know when I was facing complications, I wanted to know my real chances. I didn't want to be negative, and I didn't want false hope. Talking to others in the same situation helped a LOT. I hope this page helps you face the difficulties of a hematoma in the same way.

For some general information, check out my Subchorionic Hematoma FAQ Page.

When I first began finding others on the internet who shared my same experience, I voraciously read their stories, always eager to find out how things ended up. I was making a little scoreboard in my head of cases that turned out positive and cases that did not. The good news was, most people had SUCCESS STORIES to share, but not always. I have tried to compile the stories of women who have experienced subchorionic hematomas here. I hope you find comfort in reading about their experiences. (A big thank you goes out to those of you who have contributed!!)
